I just re-read this on a post Stobie made on Goal Line blitz... so I credit Stobie for this info, but this goes back to one of my 1st posts about Goal Line Blitz which even I forgot about....

So to go back to another thread I originally posted...

SPEED, SPEED, SPEED & MORE SPEED!!!!!!!!

don't think this is really a secret but definitely pay this some mind.

During the offseason I had a chance to swap ideas and tactics with the Team Owner of the Galaxy Aces. Please check out his team link here:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=673

As you can plainly see, this guys team is DOMINATING the league in a way that has rarely been seen before. Whats his secret ? Speed.

He told me that ALL of his players on Offense have at least 60 speed. This does not include Offensive Line.

His Defensive players also have 60 speed, with the exception of the DT's.

Speed kills. Period. Please continue to build speed up a lil bit each time you level.

Obviously the tactics that I learned from him has helped our team improve. Lets continue to dominate ! I want to win it all this year !

p.s. This guy has NEVER lost a game. Not last year, not now, and I dont see him losing in the near future.

A LITTLE MORE ON SPEED...some good goals to have...

OFFENSE
The following positions need at least 55-60 speed.
WR and HB. TE should aim for 45-50 speed.

The following positions need at least 55-60 Strength/Blocking
Guard, Center, Offensive Tackle I EXPECT ALL OLINEMEN TO MOVE TOWARDS THIS FAST FAST FAST

DEFENSE
These positions also need 55-60 speed and at least 35 tackling. CB, SS, FS
SS & FS also needs some Strength.
DE's need 40-50 speed.
DT and NT needs 55-60 Strength, 20-25 speed is exactly enough to sack QB.
LB's 40-45 speed.

All of these skills are CRITICAL as well as the other minor skills that your player might need as well.

PLEASE trust me on this advice. I have personally witnessed players with these types of stats that are BLOWING other teams away ! O-line player that are getting 10 Pancakes per game. DT's that get 3 or 4 sacks a game. CB's that SHUTDOWN every pass thrown there way. WR's who routinely turn 2 yard passes into 70 yard TD's !

great info...I'll be bulking up my players on speed w/ my next upgrades...

for DEs...what tackling level do I need...also, what level strength? (considering they're going up against strong O-linemen)

I have already planned on using my next 10 skill points for speed for my DE. This will put his speed at over 40.

from the "prototype" speed rusher...looks like I'm ok @ 30ish range...but my strength & agility are WAY behind...

Do you all remember Alvin Mac from last season? He was burried on the depth chart, but I saw his stats from this year, and they are way better than any of the DE's on LOD. He does not have his profile hidden, and his speed was over 40.

i have always made it a point to add speed to ZAK ATTAK at cb, but i guess i need to add more. looks like i need to add more to tackling to get that up a lot higher....

it is definitely different creating a db than other positions... i have wondered why the scouting report for ZA has not gone up as much as my other players.... i guess i have been focusing more on all of the attributes too much instead of what is best for the position, but have tried quite a few things..... for now on, with ZA, it is speed and tackling with the skills points....

I get the feeling this sim doesn't accurately reflect the way speed works, so guys with really high speed at certain positions probably can't be accounted for in the scheme. My LB has always been really fast for his position, and he routinely blanket covers WRs, which is totally unrealistic. The sim should have a scale for the speed based on weight, position, etc., but it probably doesn't. 40 speed for a 180# WR should work out to 4.4, while 40 speed for a 240# LB should be about a 4.65 and a 290# DE with 40 speed should run about a 4.8. But I think this sim treats 40 speed as 40 speed regardless of the position, which really allows a huge advantage for people who put blazing speed on players at positions where speed is not normally at a premium.

Agreed

I had a look at Galaxy. They routinely beat teams that have higher numbers than they in the match-ups. Speed is the deciding factor...

Getting totally ridiculous, I made a level 4 WR with 55 speed:

Will let you know how it goes.

Here is a good question...is the sim of player vs player purely based on stats or does the level factor in as well? Is a lvl 15 wr with 51 speed automatically better than a lvl 4 WR with 51 speed? Does a level 15 CB get a bonus defending a level 4 WR that he doesn't get guarding a lvl 15 WR? Or is it purely based on the relative differences in attributes between the two?

The LVL 15 WR will beat out the LVL 4 WR hands down...

Reason being... if they have the same speed... then the Lvl 4 WR has not invested as many points into Catching, Vision, Agility, Stamina or Confidence...

The LVL 15 WR should be superior in all the categories & should out-perform the Lvl 4 WR easily....

Taking into account that for the sake of argument, they both go up against the same CB...

That LVL 15 CB (assuming he had 51 speed also) would have a higher Vision, Stamina, Confidence & Agility setting... While the Lvl 4 WR might have 1 or 2 catches.. the Lvl 15 CB would dominate that match-up and could very well react to the ball faster & come away with a couple of INT's... where as if that CB faced the Lvl 15 WR, they could play to a stalemate, or one or the other could win the match-up depending on who's stats were higher in Agility, Vision & Catching...

:)

Agree with all of Pum's comments.

I don't expect this WR to be good for anything but long bombs. It will be interesting to monitor his progress. I started out making both a TE and WR then went with only a WR. If he totally sucks for a few levels while I ignore everything but speed I'll start to focus on the other stats and have a decent future recruit for LOD after a season or two.

Would have been cool to build up a TE in the mold of a WR...

I thought so too... but it was getting too expensive.
