View Full Version : Freeze on Pay Raises

So, I've been looking at our salary expenses versus our income, and all in all, we're really not making a lot of money. I think this can be remedied (in the short term) with stadium expansion. More fannies in the seats = more money from tickets and concessions.
I'm proposing that we freeze pay raises (per level). The condition is that all players train on relaxed (since the benefit of normal isn't that great) and conserve your money. We'll still assist with the "level up" moments (8, 16, etc) and give you the cash you need to complete upgrades.
As a player, this requires the "team first" commitment and trusting us to "do you right" in the end. There's no intention to screw over any player and when cash becomes more important than just upgrading equipment, we can make it up to the players who helped us get where we are.
It cost $1 million to upgrade the stadium. We're sitting at just about 2.5 million now. If we freeze pay raises (or do something similar) I think we'll have plenty to possibly add 2 levels this off season.
Thoughts and feedback please. This is not set in stone, but an idea I'm throwing out...

I think we should only cut back enough so that we can add 1 section... I think it is a little much trying to pinch pennies to build 2 sections...
Although, the rewards of 2 new sections are tempting...

Well, we're pretty close to being able to afford it...with the pay raise freeze (if the players are in favor) we can see where that lands us at the end of the season and decide what we want to do. It'd be nice to be able to build them without a loan.

I am not sure if what we are being paid is the minimum, but I would gladly take a pay cut on my lvl 16 guys if it would help us towards paying for stadium upgrades.

Just a reminder.... I will be taking out a 1.5 Mill Loan again...
But I will be doing this right before our last game of the season...
This allows us to pay it back with our ticket sales for next season.... :gig:
While cash is looking tight.... we can easily add one of the 2nd Levels with the LOAN I'll be taking out... That should help alot. :gig:

Also to help shed some light on our situation...
If you look at other teams... few if any are in better situations than we are...
In fact Stobie's team is currently down to $1,201,701.00 (http://goallineblitz.com/game/team_finances.pl?team_id=208) & texags08's team is currently down to $647,569.12 (http://goallineblitz.com/game/team_finances.pl?team_id=1089)... Granted they both could have very easily already purchased their stadium upgrades for next season... Which is why they have that amount & LOD is sitting at $2,357,479.00 (http://goallineblitz.com/game/team_finances.pl?team_id=229) currently...
If they have not purchased stadium additions for next season already... then their signing bonuses for players are really hurting them.... I don't think LOD is in that much trouble...
Stobie/texags08... I hope neither of you mind me using your teams as an example... They are just the 1st 2 teams I could look at on my page.....
The other team I am a GM on for an Air Force buddy currently has $2,454,920.80 (http://goallineblitz.com/game/team_finances.pl?team_id=705) left in his team bank account... but he has quite a few CPU players on his roster & he is in a USA Conference above us & at that level, their fans pay more...

Pum, we need to do the other end zone before doing upper level. I think you might be wanting to make it look like Kyle Field (not sure), but I read a thread somewhere that talks about ROI and the order in which you should build your stadium and the two endzones should be done before doing corners or second levels.
Pumchavas28
05-18-2008, 09:46 PM
Yeah Kyle Field was the goal....
I was gonna do the other endzone next for that section under the Jumbo Tron... and add other sections around it...
Do you have a link for that thoug... I haven't seen that & would like to...
If it's makes that big of a difference I have no problem in changing the plans for the stadium & just going for creating the whole thing the best way possible.... :)

Actually, it looks like we should build the 2 corner end zones first. (close off the lower level of the zone).
That will run us about $2 mill.
We also need to compile a list of those who are okay without pay raises (until major level ups, etc).

Dix needs $50K to complete equipment upgrades. He has $2,239. Given CB performance on the last game, I'd like to have the $ for the equipment if it is doable. As for salary, please keep as low as possible.

Put all my players down as not needing pay raises. If my lvl 16 guys are making over any minimum salary requirements, feel free to offer me a new contract at the minimum since they have already completed their upgrades. As for my <16 guys, most of them are doing well on cash, so as long as you are ok with helping them pay for lvl 16 equipment in the future, they will defer pay raises/take pay cuts as well. Cash doesn't seem to be worth anything other than equipment in this game, so if the team needs it, I would rather the team keep it.
FYI, my players that are already lvl 16 are Rock Goodag, RedAss Bastard, and Moses Hall. My other players are King Gill, Rod Saddler, Domingo Bryant, Terry Venetoulios, and Rod Bernstine.

Yes, so he need $37,500 total. I sold some equipment he wasn't using and he now has $9,739 in the bank.
So... he needs only $28,000.

Cool... but don't forget the other abilities... I think for our style of defense...
Speed, Vision, Agility & Tackling are KEY for all DB's...
While this reply is for Dixon, it's also for all the DB's... & to a lesser extent LB's...
While we want everyone faster, lets not forget our other abilities...
I'd hate to wind up with a West Virginia Defense built for 3-3-5 play forced to play 4-3 & then get trampled...

Are we doing this Freeze?
Vly are you gonna create a list of those who want to be part of the Freeze???
I would like feedback from everyone...
Agnlaw didn't accept new contracts because his player didn't need the cash... if other's would like to do the same... Please PM Vly, texags08 & myself & let us know that is in fact what you want... also include your players since people on here don't have the same User Name on GLB.
I made a promise to everyone that we would continue pay raises... If players don't mind holding off on pay raises until they Level up to a Level where equipment upgrades are possible, then that is fine also... But if no one says anything, then the Contracts will continue to go out....
From what I can tell on this Thread... these guys are ok with it...
Would like to hear from others on this... If your not ok with it & would rather continue to receive the pay raise, that is fine... There is no WRONG answer with this...

Would it help the team finances? Yes... But in the same breath... We'd be giving everyone the same cash either way to pay for the upgrades in the end...
Or this can be something we do over the last 4 games of the season... or some other way... We need to really think this through...

I"m okay with whatever is best for the team. My daily salary is already more than what it cost me to train each day, so I'm going to survive either way, as long as I can get the $$$ for upgrades at Level 16. Obviously, if we stop the pay raises, then thats just that much more that I'm going to need for upgrades.

Exactly... The pay raises "Should" take care of the amount needed in a signing bonus for equipment upgrades..
It's 1 of 2 things... Pay the players as we go along, or pay the players when they need it...

My thinking is that if we can reduce the daily cash going out for the rest of the season (or over the course of the season), we can invest it in the stadium. More capacity means more income, offsetting the amount of loans we have to make and the financial impact of paying the players the money when they need it (at the big levels (8, 16, etc)).
Pumchavas28
05-20-2008, 07:56 PM
I think we'll be taking out Loans come playoff time regardless until the stadium is complete...
Ticket sales for the following season will cover the cost easily & more... It did this season... just adding the 1 end zone was a HUGE boost in our team funds... Adding 1 or 2 corners this off-season will really help...
Looking at the team & the way things are... we could probably pay for 1 corner ourselves, take a loan & pay for the other corner as well... bring in cash from both at seasons end... and depending on ticket prices we could make back that cash easily with profit...
Also I'm just looking at concessions as more of a "keep us above water" type of income... I used to get excited about concession sales, but they usually only cover the daily salary at best.. .some times not even that...

I agree. We should loan for 1 corner endzone...buy the other outselves, and then during the season (early) look to fill out the 690 seats still left to be constructed in the areas we already built.

If we can sell out the ones we have right now 1st....
I don't like to build seats we can't sell out....
This past season what I had done is once seats were sold out, I bought more seats.. but after we dipped below $3 Mill, I held off on purchasing more seats even though we sold out all of our seats...
I'm just hoping we sell out the majority of our seats ASAP so we can purchase more early.
