Has anyone else not received their stimulus check after they were suppposed to get one? I was scheduled to get mine on the 9th and did direct deposit for my taxes.

I didn't do the direct deposit thing, so I guess that's why I'm still waiting.
But I'm not surprised that it's taking longer than they said it would.

I got mine...but it was only $600
I thought it was $600 for me and $600 for my wife...or did I get that part wrong?

I thought it was a max of $1200 if married filing jointly. But I think it was less if you made more money. But it's been a while since I looked at that stuff.

There has been some odd things going on. We got $1200, and I didn't think it was tied to your income....i could be wrong.

Got mine today, direct deposit.
I have a question... What exactly is this thing? I heard this is just an advance on next year's Income Tax. For example, if I get a refund next year then they would take out 600 bucks.
That really doesn't make sense to me so I'm thinking that may be wrong. Is this basically just free cash?
Nevermind. I went to the IRS page and looked up "What is it?" Here it is:
What is it? It's an economic stimulus payment that more than 130 million households will receive starting in May. It's not taxable, and it won't reduce your 2007 or 2008 refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return. It's basically free cash (won't be taxable next year). So the US government is paying for my gas for the next 5 or 6 weeks. I feel economically stimulated already.

i am not positive, but i do not think it is an "advance" on this year's income tax.... i think it is basically "free cash", but you will pay taxes on it with the rest of your income for this year....

nope you wont pay taxes on it. i got a letter week or so after it was deposited- you should be getting one soon if you havent already.
and the guy above who only got $600 for him & wife- you should look into that. pretty sure you should have gotten $1200. there was a story on the news about errors etc

Did you file jointly? If so, then you should have received $1200. If you filed seperately, then you will get a different check for your wife.

By the way, if you did get a check but not your full share, SavvySugar points out (http://www.savvysugar.com/1620566) that the IRS has kindly deducted back taxes or other debts in advance.
what a bunch of crap... i have some taxes i am paying on for 2006, so i guess i wont get the full $1800.....

yeah, well... i didnt have the money to pay all my taxes for 2006 thanks to self employment at the time....;)

also, i was expecting about $1600 in a tax refund for 2007 and the bastads at the infernal revenue service took that out of my bill..... well, i guess it might be a good thing in the long run for them to take it out of my tax refund and rebate check.... then i will be out of debt with the irs....

less $$$ you have to pay in interest. Did you get audited & they are making you pay back taxes or what?
zrf2002
05-16-2008, 10:20 AM
no i didnt get audited... i just owed about $2000 for 2006 and have just been paying it off slowly month to month.... what hurt me was getting 1099'ed for all the renewals, etc from 2004 and 2005 in 2006. when i got a J-O-B in 2006, my withholdings did not cover enough to make up for what i was 1099'ed...

Yeah, year 3 is an absolute bitch & it only gets worse from there. Surely, though, you could've found enough deductions to get rid of 2K. ;)
zrf2002
05-16-2008, 10:27 AM
it wasnt just trying to get rid of 2K.... it was finding enough deductions for about 15K when i also was employed..... my mileage went WAY down ;)

KC,
If you got your money DD's into more than one account you get a paper check. I have to wait an extra month becuase I had $100 put into my wife's account.
