Hmmm.... Its hard to say that they are a passing team, they just might not have as good of a running game as we do...

They are alot like us. In games where they can do it successfully, they like to run alot. In games where it isn't successful, they pass more. So their numbers end up a little skewed towards the pass, but their initial preference seems to be to run the ball if they can.

Pum, I am just curious, but have you sat and looked at the replays enough to see how often we blitz and how often it is effective versus how often if gets burned?
It would be good to look at our replays and those for some of the other really good defenses in our league to see how effective blitzes are in this game. I haven't gotten a feel for how the sim treats blitzes and whether blitzing more would help or hurt. I know from watching the OL play in recent games that at least half of the sacks and hurries we have given up have been from blitzing LBs that weren't picked up properly.

I have noticed that some of the better defenses blitz a lot. They load up the box to make you throw and then bring the heat. Which is smart, not a lot of people put a lot of stamina in the QB and most teams dont have good backup QBs.

I have looked at the GSGorillas and in their first game they blitzed 34 of the 57 plays.
They gave up 134 total yards of which 133 were passing.
Forced 3 picks and 2 fumbles.

Was looking at the Top Teams vs Each Other... It seems based on the numbers I pulled together that the best thing to do is up it just a tad bit... Not anything specatacular, but also up the Man Coverage we run...
It had been about 50/50 in Zone/Man... but we will up that % & see how that goes along with slightly increasing the Blitzes...

After talking with several other Owners/HCs.... I think I have figured out a good rotation to get everyone Playing Time....
The thing I have noticed & learned in talking to other Owners & Coaches is that adjusting the Sub In/Out % is a constant battle due to players going up in Levels, players stamina increasing & the level of competition we play each game changing...
But rest assured I will do my best to keep things going...
I am trying out some new setting that I have been told should help out the rotation much, much more... :gig:

Does Dix rotate to CB1 today?
#1 & #2 CB are both the same.... At least that is what Bort said on one of his posts...
#1 & #2 CB & WR are all treated as #1's....
The reason being is that the starting offense is a 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FB, & 1 HB set....
For Defense the starting set is a base 4-3 Defense....
Pumchavas28
05-09-2008, 10:02 AM
The way he explained it was if #1 got tired, #2 did not shift over to the #1 spot, #3 came in & filled that spot for #1 until he was rested & came back in....

Okay. I asked because Zak got more plays last game, even with Dix' stamina now slightly higher than his & I assumed it was due to the CB1 designation.

He faster than any of the players in the KR/PR depth chart. But you gotta be concerned about tiring him out. I just went through this with Dix where he fell behind on XP due to PR/KR duty.

Exactly.... Awolf is also key for our Defense... I'd hate to see him lose PT on regular Defensive plays.... Returners (since they are close to being on a full sprint) take longer to re-energize themselves...
Which is why the guys who are listed are 3rd or 4th on the depth chart at their position....

Agnlaw is right about possible stamina issues. P-ville is the 3rd string RB (only plays about 20 or so plays on offense) and the starter a KR and PR. He drops to the low 70's in energy after every game. With AWolf as the starting SS and at special teams, you are going to run the risk of not being able to get back to100% energy (or play less plays on defense).
txags92

As much as I think D Bryant is an up and coming SS, Awolf is better and we need him back there more than we do on returns IMO.

Don't f*ck with P-ville on special teams!!
51 yards per kickoff return isn't too bad! I would have had a lot more punt return yards if their punter was worth a crap. He'd only punt it 20 or 30 yards, so P-ville could only get 10-15 each return.

It may be a running style thing...is one set to power and one to elusive or something like that? Or you could just be the victim of running into players set to try to force fumbles more often than gravy is...
whitelightnin_23
05-09-2008, 01:40 PM
we're also both elusive...
I would just think that gravy carrying more than me (more chance to "run into" those players) would combat that theory...
also, Gravy is playing (primarily) against starters (depending on the sub ratio of the opponents)...
just doesn't add up at all...
regardless, I will make my next upgrades to "carrying"

Okay. I asked because Zak got more plays last game, even with Dix' stamina now slightly higher than his & I assumed it was due to the CB1 designation.
I think this does make a difference. Again in game 7, with more stamina, Dix got fewer plays in than Zak (in the 2 games after boosting stamina, Dix got 10% fewer plays). The way the stats are stacking up Dix looks like he'll edge the others for CB1 (so I'm not complaining -- he's been able to make the stats with fewer plays all season).

I am pretty happy with our line play...we gave up only 2 hurries and no sacks, while we got 5 hurries and 4 sacks against them. Considering some of the adjustments we made to the offensive settings, I am quite pleased with that. We should really kill our next opponent as well...they suck.

A trio of packaged pythons has caused a scare at a German post office.
Police in Darmstadt said Friday that the snakes were stuffed into a parcel that was handed in for mailing to eastern Germany. It contained two tiger pythons and an albino tiger python of more than 3 feet in length.
A post office worker noticed one of the reptiles on Thursday afternoon after it apparently bit through the package.

I will continue to put more emphasis on throwing. Jerrod seems to be seeing the field nicely....he generally found the open man. The problem seems to be two-fold--making an accurate throw to get it to the open man & then actually having that guy catch it. Focus on throwing & tight spiral should help rectify both of those.

05-09-2008, 02:06 PM
Absolutely, our D is effective. I think a big contribution to that has been the position battle resulting in greater depth. At CB especially, I think you might consider keeping the postion rotation going just like it has been.
If Zak, Chicken, Carpenter & Dix rotate CB1-4 (giving whoever is number 4 special teams duty) in perpetuity, we're gauranteed to keep sharp. JMO -- I don't like how few plays Carpenter has gotten since you put him at CB4 (if he, or any of them for that matter, fall behind due to XP, it will ultimately not be good for the team. JMO

For that matter, I just looked at Sprott. You might even make it a CB1-5 rotation.
txags92
05-09-2008, 02:42 PM
As long as the player levels and performance are close enough, I think balancing the play across as many players as possible is exactly what Pum is trying to achieve. If it were as simple as saying player A gets 25%, B gets 25% etc. then we would have no problems. However, the tweaks being made to the game, the changes in player level and stamina, the variability in quality of opponent, etc. all have conspired to make playing time balance a moving target. For several games we had a setup that was about perfect. Then suddenly the next game it went to hell in a handbasket after they added the advanced settings. These settings today were better than last game, but they still aren't perfect.
Agnlaw
05-09-2008, 02:47 PM
Yes. I'm saying that the rotation that resulted from the postion battles plan has resulted in an overall stronger team -- so maybe don't end it after game 8 as I think was the plan.:gig:
txags92
05-09-2008, 03:03 PM
I don't think there are any plans to make major changes to the substitution settings after 8 games. I think the main change will be that the depth chart becomes set at that point. Most everybody will still play about the same amount, but the starters will be the starters and the backups will be the backups after that point.

But on P-Ville's Return... THey had 3 CB's, 1 WR, 1 SS, 1 FS, 3 LB's... and he out ran all of them....:gig::gig::gig:
The only dude that I would have thought to be a weakness before the kick-off was their DE.. but P-Ville blew them all away...:stupid:
