Fasano was traded to Miami...

Witten last season often lined up in the Slot with Fasano in the traditional TE position...

If you look at Tellus' Bio on the Cowboys web site... They mention how Tellus can also line up in the Slot as well...

Jason Garrett showed that he is not afraid to think outside the box....

I can picture both being interchangeable parts in the TE & Slot positions...

I would almost be 100% sure that Tellus would be in on running plays out of the 2 TE formation & not to mention that Witten also some times lines up that the FB position too when he goes in motion out of that spot... When Witten did that last year, Fasano would again line up in the TE spot....

Dallas ran more 2 TE sets than people realize.....

Also ESPN, Fox, & SI all compare him to Antonio Gates.... If he plays like Gates for Dallas, combined with Witten....

(Double Post) Ya gotta love this....

The same went for Bennett, who was somewhat underutilized in Texas A&M's run-oriented offense.

Phillips said one of the most enjoyable parts of the day was hearing Bennett accept the phone call from Jerry Jones.

"You could tell he was jumping up and down and he was yelling, 'It's Jerry Jones. It's Jerry Jones,'" Phillips recalled. "Then you could hear people in the background yelling, too."

But the Cowboys were probably doing some cheering of their own when they were able to land Bennett.

In fact, Jerry Jones said he was trying to trade higher into the second round, with the possibility of taking a receiver, or even Bennett.

Bennett, a former basketball player at Texas A&M who is arguably the best overall athlete among the tight ends in the draft, could add another dimension to the offense, especially down the field.

By trading away Anthony Fasano, who was sent to Miami along with Akin Ayodele for a fourth-round pick on Friday, the Cowboys were looking for some help at the position and believe they have found it in Bennett. "We didn't draft Bennett to be a backup tight end," Jones said. "We wanted to add a dimension to the offense."

Man.... I'm already getting pumped about Tellus playing for Dallas.... :gig:

The think its hilarious that Bennet's personality won't stand out one bit in Dallas. With Terrel owens, pacman jones, romo, and potentially chad johnson on the same team as bennett he will blend into the crowd. For some reason I could see Bennett and Owens getting along really well.

Just a bit of an update on Tellus... :gig:

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=A6D9D5DA-B7CC-7B21-058C683364BC0D91 (http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=A6D9D5DA-B7CC-7B21-058C683364BC0D91)

He starts his 1st Pro Practice tomorrow....
While this camp will involve only the rookies and some first-year players, there are a few veterans at the facility.

Second-round pick Martellus Bennett said he ran into one who just so happens to be a player he'll get to know very well in the coming months.

"Yeah, I got to meet Jason Witten," said Bennett, who is expected to compete for a backup spot behind the Pro Bowler. "He's a real nice guy. I'm excited to learn from him."

And Bennett, who grew up in Alief, Texas, said just wearing the star on his helmet will fulfill a longtime dream.

"I grew up in Texas watching the Cowboys, so I'm still real excited about it," said Bennett, who was among the 30 prospects visiting two weeks ago. "I took my visit here and told the guys this is where I want to be and I want to come back here."
Bennett will be one of two rookie tight ends attending the mini-camp, along with William & Mary's Drew Atchison.

Another Update on Tellus..... :gig:

Hard Not To Notice

One guy hard to miss the first two days of this three-day mini-camp has been second-round draft choice Martellus Bennett. And for more reasons than just being 6-6.

The tight end from Texas A&M so far has done a nice job of catching the ball, but maybe even more noticeable has been his ability to run routes and get open in these individual drills.

"He has a feel for space and where other people are," Phillips said. "And he has good body control . . . he's got a little separation."

Phillips means Bennett can break away from defensive backs or linebackers running pass routes.
Jerry Jones keeps seeing the possibilities of utilizing Bennett in the red zone, especially inside the 10 when the field gets congested, except up there where only a 6-6 player with leaping ability can go.

Another Update on Tellus!!!

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?editorialAuthor=1&id=C011DC2A-B397-DB93-2A4AF1EDF4D7ABF9

Yep we got to see 'em all, give them the eyeball test, and randomly I can tell you Felix Jones was shorter than I expected, Danny Amendola seemed shorter than listed, Richard Bartel was lighter than last time we saw him, Martellus Bennett was as tall as advertised and Daniel Polk is about as good an athlete as you will find in rookie free agency.

Evidently spending the past season on the practice squad has really helped out Rodney Hannah, last year's inexperienced tight end from the University of Houston who appeared to be running much more disciplined routes and catching the ball at higher rate of regularity . . . His problem will be Bennett, who is just as big (6-6), runs good routes, too, and has a knack for getting open, or at least in these one-on-one drills against other rookie linebackers and safeties. Now he needs to stay on his feet. Give the guy an A for effort, but he always seemed sprawled out on the ground trying to catch a pass. I'd rather my 6-6 receiver on his feet at all times . . .

How's this from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on the thoughts of having Jason Witten and Bennett on the field at the same time: "Visions of sugar plums come to mind." . . .

Sixth-round draft choice Erik Walden said his turf toe on the right foot that basically bothered him all year finally healed in the off-season. Said he played the first four games this past season, then missed two and played the final six without the ability to push off with his right foot. That's a problem when you are playing right defensive end . . . And here is a good answer from Bennett, who's been tabbed as being self-assured and a tad out-spoken, when asked about becoming a second-round pick and being here at The Ranch now: "It's still a tryout, an audition and you've got to prove yourself." Atta boy. . .

bennett could win ROY
I wish, but with TO, Glenn, Crayton, Witten, Jones & Barber all sharing touches with Bennett... I don't think he will be able to make that big of a name for himself his 1st year...

He is however walking into a perfect situation to grow & learn the position from an All-Pro Tight End & one hell of an Offensive Mind in Jason Garrett.

has a tightend won a ROY?
No
