Hey guys,

I've always like Cornell Tarrant. I know he isn't proven or anything, but it seems like every time he gets the ball he makes a lot of really big plays. I can only base this off of what I've seen at 2 marron and white games and also from his very limited playing time last season.

He's very balanced. I think he's very close to Goodsons speed and also a little stronger? I know you can't really know much about someone who doesn't see much playing time, but I hope he will be 2nd string this year. I like him over our younger guys and also he's way better than Smith. Smith appears to be a very hard worker and I think that is why the coaches like him so much.

*side story*
I got Cornell Tarrant's autograph at the signing session this past weekend. There was no line at his table and he seemed a bit bored. I jokingly said, "Hey, this is the future right here, right?" He smiled real big and got pretty excited while exclaiming, "If God is willing. I'm working hard ya know." Then he put out his hand which was nice. I don't care about autographs. I just wanted to see my team up close and interact a bit. That was nice to see a positive and sincere reaction. Then of course he had a great M&W game following. I also said something simular to "the future right here" to the young linemen at the end of the defensive side of the signing tables. 3 big guys sounded out, "Hell yeah!". I thought it was great to get to talk with some players almost one on one, and I had a fun time.

In any case, I know you have strong opinions on who should play and who should be used when. I just wanted to see what you all think about Tarrant as 2nd string.

He really is a great guy & its a shame that he hasn't gotten more of a shot. Cornell's biggest problem in the past was pass blocking/blitz pickups. Fran loved McGee too much to take a chance on him getting blind-sided because a RB missed a block. Maybe Sherm will have a different philosophy.

I hope that he gets some more PT this year, but not at the expense of others getting hurt. Unfortunately, I think he will end up being Mr. Maroon & White Game.

Yup.... Fran would rather run him head 1st into the other team's best DT & LB...

This is actually a really good point.:rep:

There was no logic in Fran's decisions. I think Tarrant is a good enough blocker. Considering J-Train will block for the QB every play this season, I hope Tarrant is #2. He can't be a worse blocker than Goodson

I really liked Tarrant's explosion/burst when he got the ball. He took a couple of pitches and it was like he caught the ball on a fly pattern (in stride and at full speed).

We're stacked at RB so will he be the featured back this year? No, but I think he'll be an important cog and feel that there will be a game this season where that burst will pay off big from a spark perspective. A RB running hard is the most contagious thing on a team in my opinion...in the games that Toombs, the Train, etc took over it was because of the hard running. It infused the entire team.

Kind of like a hockey coach putting in his grind line (say 3rd or 4th line) for the spark, that edge. Guys like Tarrant are worth their weight in gold as they move up the ranks...

I have been on the Train about his weight and such but I'll say this we don't stay on the field against tu the last couple of years without those tone setting runs. He almost single handedly turned those games into the grindhouse affairs that they became and that Stephen was able to finish off.

I just see this kid taking those pitches late in games last year, running down the sideline looking for the cutback against the grain running at full speed the whole time. I'm pumped now.
