This is a couple of days old but I never saw it posted. I guess Bobby Reid isn't turning out to be what they thought he was going to be after he QBed "The Greatest High School Football Team, Ever" a few years back. I mean, if you can't beat out Donovan Woods...

A couple things. First, Woods is no slouch (Forget star ratings as he was a small school guy that never entered the recruiting process which means there wasn't much chance of him ever getting any attention from Rivals/Scouts). Second, the competition isn't finished. It has been neck and neck. After Reid got injured last spring, he missed out and Woods now has a year's experience. That is a lot to overcome.

Reid has been making the WOW type plays, but he's also been making the head scratching plays. That goes with a new offense and lack of experience.

I think that Woods may very well end up winning the starting job for the season, but the coaches are going to let both get a lot of playing time early. That will be to the advantage of Reid.

Hey -- don't forget me.

The starting job went to Woods for the first game. They are both supposed to get ample playing time in the first few games.

I think I'd be much more scared of Reid. If the Woods bros. were both at WR, that would be a pretty good offense, however Gundy obviously thinks this is better for the team and he knows a helleva lot more than me

Well, thats a given, no matter who you are talking about. ;)

And did some of you guys even read the article? It says that Woods is the starter, so I would say that the competition is over. Statistically, Woods had decent numbers last year, but thats because his brother is a freak & can jump out of the stadium. Mile$ didn't have a lot of confidence in him, because he only let him throw when it was absolutely necessary. You honestly can't say that you feel confident with Woods as your QB (especially with 3 seperate RBs gone from last years team), & that can't give you a lot of hope for Reid if he can't beat out an average at best Woods.

Reid is only a redshirt freshman.

Yeah...and Woods is only a sophomore. Its not like we're talking about a senior here.

He wasn't going to be that good anyway

This isn't necessarily a ringing endorsement of Woods. Basically the two have been neck and neck and the running thought has been that for Reid to be QB#1, he'd have to win the job outright. Sort of a "to be the champ you have to beat the champ" kind of thing.

I do agree with you that if we could put the Woods Bros at WR that the offense could be more dangerous.

As for Miles not having a ton of confidence, I think that was mainly due to him being a RS-Fresh last year. He did a great job of controlling the line and all that. That offense was built to run.

As for the RBs, Mike Hamilton is the highest rated RB recruit to come to OSU since Thurman Thomas. He was a USA Today All-American and was rated as high as RB#17 in the country by one of the services. He's big and fast and strong. But he's a freshman also so we'll have to see.

There was a time about 2 weeks ago when Gundy got so excited about Reid that he wanted to name him starter right then and there. However, he's leaving the offense to Fedora and from what I gather, Fedora wants to see more consistency from Reid before he puts him in the offense.

I'm just happy that we can soon stop speculating on newspaper articles and actually see (or hear in my case as I won't be able to go to our game) our teams play. It would suck to be a Tech fan and have to wait another week.
