View Full Version : Not accepted.
Well today I found out I wasn't accepted into A&M. Kinda sucks. I'm not a stupid kid, 26 ACT, top 50% of my class (huge class, top 25% have a 4.0gpa). Really kinda blows, but I asked to be put on the waiting list.

didn't realize you were in HS...
maybe you could go the route of the corp? I think that helps w/ admissions...
Yeah, I'm a senior, 18 years old. I was down there two weeks ago for a campus visit and met with a corp rep. He told me that now, it doesn't really affect much at all. Admissions are so competitive that they can't let the corp be a deciding factor on getting it, or I would have done it there that day.

Sorry man. If it doesn't work out immediately, you might think about going the Ju-Co route for a year. It should be easier to get accepted as a sophmore with a strong GPA. You can still live in College Station & save a few bucks for the first year.

you could go to blinn for a semester or 2 or a community college and then transfer in.... i was not excepted either when i was a senior.... i went to a really small school and only had 28 kids in my glass.... i went to community college for 2 semesters and made a 3.25 gpa and transferred in with no problems.... it sucks, but dont let this keep you from being an Aggie... you will get there....
Yeah, they offered me the waiting list and the "BLINN" team program.
From what I've picked up though, the kids at Blinn are the joke of A&M.

If you don't mind me asking what major did you apply for?
There are some majors that are easier to get into than others.
Well I have a lot of family down in the eastern texas area and while I was there a lot of them recommended SFA as a possible school. Like you said, 2 semesters, and transfer. That's an option. I think it's almost too late to apply for another school though. Most places closed up admissions for the fall semester already.

Even though I was at A&M, I still took summer classes at Blinn. I can tell you that the girls there like to get freaky.
I put in Business Administration, then Computer science.
I actually requested to switch to General Studies last week (heard it would help) but it wasn't switched before I got my decision.

I am not familiar with the current admissions process. Is it possible to change your preference now that you are on the waitlist?
I'm sure. The request is still in there. It's still as "open" so I suppose they will switch it.

Don't let what other people think or might say determine whether or not you choose to go to Blinn or another JUCO. I have a lot of friends who either went the Blinn route or another JUCO. If you want to go to A&M, just work hard to get those grades in your first year. The only Blinn people I know that get made fun of are the ones that have been perpetually saying "I'm gonna transfer to A&M next semester" but never did a lick of work to accomplish that goal. Work hard, keep you head up and focus on that goal, and you will accomplish it.

I wouldn't think a school like SFA would close their admissions yet. You should still be able to get in their. But still, I would go to community college for a year. If you get above a 3.0, I am pretty sure you could get in no problem.

I wouldn't worry about that. Your degree won't say that you spent a year or two at Blinn, it will just say "Texas A&M." If you take classes at Blinn, every class you have will have at least a couple of A&M students who are just taking some of the core courses there to save money.
Also, what is your major? I know that Ag majors from Blinn get automatically admitted to A&M if they keep a certain GPA.

You should have used Poultry Science as your major. You would have gotten right in. I know some people who got in that way and just changed majors later. The Business and Engineering Colleges are too full.

benchambers, thanks. It's my ultimate goal to get to A&M so through Blinn or not, I'm sure I'll attempt to get in again somehow.
KCAggie, that's what it looks like I'll end up doing. I could stay here in-state for a year at Kansas State, then transfer. You can transfer D-1 to D-1 right?
Loftin, Business Administration, then Computer science were my two major choices.
Coolaidwade, I wish I would have known that before, ha.

My roommate and I were both wait-listed and we got in. I wouldnt recommend the Blinn team program though. One of my buddies took that route and only gets to take one class at A&M each semester and doesnt get to transfer until hes a junior whereas if you just start off at Blinn and do well you can get over to A&M much faster.
Well, you're the second case I have heard of getting in off the wait list so at least there is a bit of hope left. If you don't mind me asking, what were your academic scores, etc?

I was in the top 11% or 12% of a pretty big high school class and I had a 1190 SAT. However, I didnt have much besides that, extra cirricual activies and stuff like that.
See, I'm like top 50% of a big school, but a 26 on the ACT which is around the same as a 1200 SAT.

Dude do not let anyone tell you that going to Blinn is not a smart decision... There is no difference between an Aggie that graduates with 4 years from aTm and someone who does the Blinn Team there is no * on your diploma... Hell just go the first 2 years at Blinn if not at aTm and then transfer in later. You will not have to go through all the crap classes, you will meet hot girls, you still will be in the environment of Aggieland, and any person that tells you your stupid for going to Blinn and not aTm probably has their parents paying for thier school and are spoiled b*#ch @$$es anyway!!!!

Hey, a tip for you. I had a friend receive the "rejection" letter at the same time as me. He re-applied a little later in the year (I would recommend doing it now). He had to pay the application fee again, but on the second go-around, he got accepted (I'm assuming because housing opened up because spots they were holding didn't fill).
Can't hurt, right? You're already on the waiting list....

i have spent two years out of school and its probably the stupidest decision i ever could have done, i did the juco/blinn route and was accepted in with a 2.65 GPA so there is hope for people out there, and you don't even want to know what program i was accepted into with that GPA(some people are astonished by it)
but if you do the blinn/juco route just make sure your GPA is high and have constant contact with the advisers at A&M with the major you are looking at(b/c they can tell you the classes that "actually" work in your degree plan)
on a side note, last friday this kid i've been recruiting to come here for a long long time finally decided to come to the good guys for school. :gig:

bb,
Another option is A&M Galveston. Go there for one year, maintain a 2.5 GPA and you are guaranteed admission to the main campus your sophmore year. Some who start there with the idea of transfering never leave. The ring and diploma are the same as from the main campus.
Wanting to be in the Corps does not get you any preference in admissions. You still have to meet the same requirements as every other student. You are guaranteed on campus housing with the Corps.

I took math 141 and 142 at Blinn. Those were the only two classes I knew I wouldn't be able to pass at A&M. I have always been handicapped with math; I never knew why but I just can't get that stuff.
Then I took Speech and Sociology at Blinn just because at the time I couldn't get into them at A&M and didn't want to wait until I was a graduating senior to get forced into speech.
Yeah, and it's a little know fact that A&M Galveston is actually considered a extension and not a system school. You get THE Aggie Ring when you go there. I didn't even know for a long time even though in my handbook they have a section just for A&M Galveston.

I actually finished my degree at the Galveston campus after spending two years in College Station. My degree is marine science, so it made more sense for me to be there, and you may have to declare a major centered around the study of the ocean, but if you are there for only 1 year, you will not take any of those classes anyway. And everyone there are considered Aggies. Students even get tickets to the football games.

I took few class at Blinn when I was going to A&M. It's cheaper and classes were smaller. Theres nothing wrong with that. They were alot of Aggies that did it. Don't worry about it. Just go to Blinn take care of what you need to do and after you take 30 Hrs( 1 year) reapply and you will get in.:gig:
I know someone who decided to go to Texas A&M Galveston. She told me it was more costly than the College Station campus, but I could be wrong. I'm considering the Blinn program, and then maybe just attending a community college in general. I can take basic classes here where I live on Ft.Riley for free from a community college. It'd save me money. But are you transferable from any community college?

Yes/No... make sure aTm will accept the classes you plan on taking... Do not enroll in a class till you talk to an aTm counselour (sp) too lazy to check... Make sure, I hear so many stories of non transfered classes. Everyone of mine did, because I did what I just mentioned.

A&M Galveston and the Blinn team are the only two options that guarantee you admission to the main campus. All transfer applications from other schools, including those in the A&M system, go under full review. You have about a 1 in 3 chance of being accepted.
