ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) -- Investigators are trying to piece together what happened after a chaotic scene in Round Rock ended with officers shooting and killing a 22-year-old man.
Three officers responded to a disturbance call after 7 p.m. Tuesday off of Bowman Drive in the Greenhill subdivision.
The medical examiner started performing an autopsy on the body Wednesday morning, and the results will show exactly how many shots entered his body.
A father who lives directly across from where the suspect lives called 911 when he became concerned that a naked man was out in the street.
The neighbor told KXAN Austin News he saw a man arguing with a woman who police believe was his sister or possibly stepsister. The man walked into the street and took off all of his clothes. A neighbor yelled at the naked man, who then got in a car and drove away.
The neighbor then called 911, and the naked 22-year-old returned. His family brought him some clothes.
The first officer then arrived and said the suspect was violent and tried to hit him.
Two other officers arrived for back-up, and when the suspect tried to grab a baton, all three officers shot at him.
A police officer and a witness described the chaotic scene.
"The man was nude. There's pretty much no doubt about that. That was what the original call said, and that's what we found later," said Eric Poteet with the Round Rock Police Department.
"The cop grabbed the young man's arm so he could not hit the lady anymore, it was like a domestic thing, he grabbed his arm, the guy swung at the police. The cop stepped back, drew his weapon at the guy," said witness Denisha Hunter, "and as soon as it looked like the man was going to take off running, as soon as he did that, [the officer] shot twice, and me and my daughter ran across the street and dove right here in these bushes."
All three officers, one of which was a supervisor, are on administrative leave until the investigation is complete. Their names have not been released.
Besides guns, Round Rock police carry pepper spray and batons. They do not carry Taser devices.
"Obviously, it's a fairly chaotic scene, and so now we just have to break it down and account for every fraction of a second that occurred during the whole incident, and that's exactly what we're going to do," said Poteet.
Police said they've never had a problem in the past with the suspect.
Not all of the suspect's family members have been notified, but police believe his name will be released by Wednesday afternoon.
Stay tuned to KXAN Austin News and KXAN.com, as more information should be released later Wednesday.
This reeks of drugs, people don't just get naked in the middle of the street and fight the police for no reason. I bet there will be PCP in his system when they do the autopsy.
