Eight of the ten fastest growing cities in the US are in the South.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- More people moved to Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, than to any other metropolitan area in the United States last year.
The population there increased by 162,250 between July 1, 2006, and July 1, 2007, according to a new U.S. Census Bureau report. Atlanta, Phoenix and Houston also saw their ranks swell by more than 100,000 people each.

So the recent Cold weather has nothing to do with it..... :bored:
Yeah I'd bet at least 1/2 of the population increase is probably from south.... but I'm sure if there is some kind of Stats Link, you will see several cities losing population up North as well....

Like I said... the weather has been getting Colder & Colder up north.... Folks get tired of it & eventually will move south....

It's coming from both directions. As for the cold weather, not sure that it's any colder. But the economy of the north is definitely getting weaker and weaker which doesn't help. Either way, I wish they'd stop coming. There's too many people here.

I wish more would come to Montgomery.... A population boom of more than your typical "I HATE EVERYONE" redneck could do this area some good...
There is nothing to do here & you have to drive 3 hours to do anything worth doing...
Anyone who thought Austin was a small & some what boring capitol needs to visit Montgomery... This place sucks & the population for a capitol city is horrible & the people around here are shaddy as hell.

Why does population increase to Texas from Mexico automatically mean illegal? I never said anything about legality. I just know an awful lot of students and work cohorts that have moved here from south of the border. And for the record, Tex-Mex is my favorite cuisine; however, the point I was getting at is generally restaurants are pretty indicative of the population they serve.

Because majority rules, that's why. For every legal Mexican moving to Texas from Mexico there are probably 1000 that are illegal.

The reconquista was Spain and Portugal basically kicking the muslims off the Iberian Peninsula....
Nothing to do with Mexico....or Latin America in general.

Not really. Reconquista means "reconquer" in Spanish, which is spoken in Mexico. It's a real word that doesn't necessarily relate to one event in history.
Nice try, though.

The term Reconquista (in English, "reconquest") was popularized by Mexican (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico) writers Carlos Fuentes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Fuentes) and Elena Poniatowska (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elena_Poniatowska) to describe the demographic and cultural reemergence of Mexicans in the Southwestern United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwestern_United_States).[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
A movement hoping to grant ownership of certain land areas in the Southwestern United States to Mexico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico), Mexicans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexicans), or Mexican-Americans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican-Americans).[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] The premise of this reconquest is an historical claim to the land prior to the presence of European-Americans. The term does not make a claim for Spaniard-Europeans[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)], but rather, for Mexicans, the majority of whom are mixed-blood and full-blood indigenous-blooded people[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)].

reconquer translated to spanish directly is "reconquiste"
I don't know spanish that well and the poper verbage so it could be wrong.
I believe it is reconquest that translates to reconquista...so even if you meant it that way you were wrong in your translation....so nice try

your own article proved me right
It was originally a jocular analogy to the Spanish Reconquista (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconquista) of Moorish Iberia, since the areas of greatest Mexican immigration and cultural diffusion are conterminous with northern New Spain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Spain) and former Mexican territories.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]
The concept, but not the term "reconquista" itself, has been advanced by Chicano (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicano) nationalists of the 1970's to describe plans for the restoration of the vaguely-defined Aztec homeland called Aztlán (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztl%C3%A1n). However, other more recent Mexican Nationalist groups have supported this cause. The word does not properly apply to immigration outside territories lost by Mexico in the Mexican-American War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican-American_War) following the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Guadalupe_Hidalgo).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconquista_(Mexico)#cite_note-0)

So the word "reconquista" was used for Mexicans in the US and for the Christian-Moor war, and the idea was used by Aztecs. I believe that gels 100% with everything I said.

Actually yeah you were... but as usuall, your pride keeps from ever admiting your wrong...
The language spoken in Mexico is Mexican... People in the US can say what ever they want, but Spanish is spoken in Spain...
I'm sure you'll do something to go out of your way & try to prove yourself right, but considering the fact that I have been to Spain & have family in Mexico, I can assure you that both Languages are not the same...
Also please save your time & effort with a smart @$$ remark about how little things are the same... In the end the 2 languages are different... If you go to Spain & use the Mexican language, little to no one will understand 1/2 of what you say...

I bolded the parts in your article where it said it agrees with the concept....BUT NOT THE TERM RECONQUISTA
The part you bolded pertained to Aztecs in Mexico, and was a separate case from the term being used by Mexican-American writers.
I've heard that term used in that context before, that's why I said it. I didn't pull it out of my ass, because "no se español." I had to have heard that term before in order to know when to use it. Otherwise, it would have been a really lucky guess to make up a Spanish word and for it to fit perfectly with the situation I used it in.
Actually yeah you were... but as usuall, your pride keeps from ever admiting your wrong...I've proven myself right, yet y'all are backtracking and trying to tell me what I "really meant." Lame. When you have to resort to that, IT MEANS YOU GOT OWNED.

I'm aware of the different dialects. I had a roommate for two years from Equatorial Guniea (a nation in Africa that was a part of Spain until 1968), and he speaks Spanish like they do in Spain. He would comment all the time about how Mexicans didn't speak "a good Spanish."
However, the one word in question is "reconquista." Is that word not a part of the "Mexican" dialect? I think the fact that Mexican-American writers use it is proof that it is.
Sometimes reminds me of the women that I have worked with in the past... always with the Double Standards...There is absolutely a double standard, but a little different from what you say.

You would think your roomate would have realized that the reason it is not the same is because of the fact that Mexico is no Spain... Same as the rest of the countries down south, none are the same & none use the same language despite Spain being the start of all of them....
I guess American's should all speak like the British now since Mexicans should speak the exact same language as Spain.... :bored:

I'm not sure what Lane and Reggie have to do with this.
I never made any broad generalizations about what people speak in Mexico. I referred to the large increase of Mexicans in Texas as a "reconquista," which many Mexican-American writers do.
Read my initial comment that started a 3-page "let's try to make Loftin look stupid fest" (which, by the way, failed miserably when I proved myself right). It's not even a whole line long, nor does it present anything as fact. I just referred to Mexicans moving into Texas as "reconquista." Pinetar made a smartass comment to make me look stupid and I proved myself right. That should have been the end of it. Now, you are trying to argue with me about stuff that has NOTHING to do with what I originally posted.
