So I have decided that it is time to let my old car go at 115000 miles, and I am looking for a replacement. I really like the new Dodge Chargers and the reviews I have read from them have come up pretty good. So my question to you is do you know anyone who has one and how do they like it? Heard anything good or bad about them?

Thanks Guys!

While my truck is being fixed (minor tornado damage), Enterprise Rent A Car has hooked me up with a Charger...

They drive smooth, and are pretty comfortable... I've only had it for a week so I haven't really "TESTED" it out yet...

But I like it so far....

I've been in one before and they are pretty nice. Lots of interior room. Don't be a baby and get the V6 though. If you're gonna get that car, you've gotta get the big engine!

My neighbor has one with the Hemi, racing stripes, etc and he loves that thing. I'm not a big dodge fan, but the Chargers look so cool they have grown on me. I absolutely hate sitting in the back seat of it because the windows are so small and I get a little claustrophobic. But if you're never going to be in the back seat, you'll probably really like the car.

Personal opinion--I would never own a Dodge. Have a bubby who worked for an extended warranty company & Dodge has one of the highest risk factors in the market.

I have heard that too.. but my husband has a dodge truck that he has had for almost 5 years that he bought brand new. He has never had one single problem with it and would really like me to give up the foreign cars and go for a dodge. I guess it depends on the individual car though as far as having problems goes.

Hope you have a lot of money to spend on gas. The last time I looked at the EMPG on a sticker, it was a real gas hog.

i'm kinda mixed on the chargers, with working at said rental car company above, i have had the chance to driving many of them. They are fairly big, many of our customers complain about the blind spots in the rear corners...none of them have caused an accident by my accounts. A plus is the new lifetime powertrain warranty dodge came out with, i know dodge tranny's have been a weak point for them. Personally i like the styling of them, yes ditch the v6 for a bigger engine but with a bigger engine comes the wonderfull fuel economy of the dodge, even the v6's don't get that great of gas mileage. Interiors are very roomy and its easy to get lost in them.

Performance wise, they are an alright car, they weigh in at 4100 pounds which can be considered "f150 weight" so performance wise it takes alot to get them to skoot. and the fact that they only have an auto is a complete bummer imho.

One thing that has happened with about 20-25 dodges in the last year at the job is that the drivers side door speaker in the rams and the chargers/300's just breaks from its mount in the door. This has become a rather frequent problem in those cars.

Just to clarify, my buddy never worked for a rental car company. He worked for a company that sold extended warranties to car owners. The rates for said warranties was based on the likelyhood of the car breaking down & Dodge was one of the most expensive brands.

my brother in law has one....it's sweet to drive in/ride in, but he gets his gas for free (pharm rep)...he hasn't had anything go wrong w/ it YET....but Dodge's (in general) have unusual things happen to them.

gas mileage is a major concern for me, because my gas isnt paid for when i travel so i have to be very mindful. i am getting about 27 mpg on the highway right now in my car, but this car has so many miles on it, i need to find something more dependable.

He has never had one single problem with it and would really like me to give up the foreign cars and go for a dodge.

Chargers are made in Canada. See final assembly location at the bottom. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_Glance.aspx?year=2008&make=Dodge&model=Charger&trimid=-1
For similar sized 'American' cars the Chevy Impala is also made in Canada and the Ford Fusion is made in Mexico. So don't let the nameplate fool you into thinking you are helping out American workers.

Compare this to similar sized 'Foreign' cars the Nissan Altima and Toyota Avalon that are made in the USA. You have to look at where the individual car model is made.

In the end I'd just pick whichever car is the best for the money. Ford and Chevy have been closing the quality gap between Toyota and Honda the last few years. From the reviews I see Dodge has fallen behind the rest. On the other hand the Charger is cool and if you get a car based completely on reason and practicality you'll end up with something boring you might not be happy with down the road.

I would go with a GT Mustang... Screw the Hemi, you are only getting 40 more hp and not that much more torque so the weight difference would make up for it... Mustang=better MPG...

I work in the automotive aftermarket and here's the thing about all chrysler vehicles(dodge, chyrsler, jeep, etc.). Often they are very dependable cars, but if they ever do break, it is guaranteed expensive to fix. On average a part for a chrysler car is going to cost 20-30% more than it's ford or chevy counterpart, just because it goes on a chrysler. They are also on average more expensive to insure for that very same reason. Oh, and not only does the part itself cost more, but normally so does the labor to put it on because chrysler engineers have no idea how to design a car so that you can get to anything.

That being said, I've driven a new hemi charger, and that thing was awesome. I don't think I'd ever personally buy one for the above reasons, but I sure love driving one.

If only chrylser didnt Fu** up the JEEP name and put mopar parts on it... How do you kill the 4.0L straight 6... That is the only reason i dont have a new wrangler now and opted for a truck...

I have a 2000 BMW 323i with like 115000 miles on it... which is why i need something newer with less miles... I love my car, but I just cant keep traveling the way I do now with it.

Actually I think mileage and fuel ECONOMY seem to correlate (r = .95).
Okay, I know this isn't my imagination, but has anyone else seen a coorelation b/w rising gas prices and crappier fuel economy? My driving habits have been the same for years. I buy gas at the same gas station probably 90% of the time. My truck's maintenence is always up to date (fuel filter changes, oil changes, tire pressure, tune ups, etc). However, over the last year or so as gas prices have skyrocketed, I've noticed that my gas mileage has decreased.

usually people concerned about fuel economy don't advocate or V-8's.

JMO but I think I'm close.

aggjay85

Chi,

If you're driving the same vehicle, it doesn't matter whether or not you keep it maintained, the fact is, the more miles you put on a motor, the worse fuel economy it's going to get. It has to do with a loss of compression due to the wearing down of the seal between the piston rings and the cylinder walls.
