Huh?

As first impressions go, it was touching to see Cedric Benson shed a few tears Saturday after his name was announced as the fourth pick in the NFL draft.

But, as tears go, within minutes the impression had warped and it was nearly impossible not to wonder if Benson's were merely the leaking lids of a crybaby.

"I just feel so good for it to finally be over," Benson told ESPN's Suzy Kolber.

Off he went, about "the Ricky stuff" and the "tough process" he said was "degrading" and "a big slap in the face for everything I've done."

And later, speaking via phone to reporters at Halas Hall, he added, "It was like I had murdered somebody or something."

Stop it, kid. You're killing me.

very critical and funny article from Chicago (the place he's headed):

"I thought the process was a big slap in the face for everything I've done, for the way I've carried myself and tried to present myself," he said. "There's no respect for what I've done."

So let it be known that, from now on, teams about to invest millions of dollars in a young football player should not ask tough questions about his checkered past. It's unfair. Here is a partial list of acceptable interview questions:

"How's it going?"

"When you kicked down a door in 2003, leading to your arrest, did you kick soccer style or straight on?"

"Who are these idiots who refuse to legalize marijuana?"

"Peace on Earth: for or against?"

And the Dallas Morning News said:
Composure: UT's Benson goes bonkers

Cedric Benson is crying after being picked No. 4 by the Chicago Bears. All the ESPN throats are saying this is a heart-warming story and that his tears show how much passion Benson has. Now Benson is talking about why he's not like Ricky Williams. With every word, he's sounding more and more like Ricky Williams. Zip it, Ced. (Bet the Bears are wondering if they can give the pick back and take Carnell Williams.)

Benson, if you hadn't been caught with drugs....those questions may not be needed.

Whatever..... He is the typical pothead with no work ethic. There is no doubt he has talent and is a bear when he gets the ball but blink and you'll miss his NFL career. I don't think he has what it takes to keep himself in shape for any type of prolonged career in the NFL.

I watched that interview after he got picked, what a freakin whiner. Spouting off about the "Ricky stuff" and bringing in the African-American card into the interview. What does this guy think everyones impressions were going to be when he had said Ricky was his idiol, same school, same hair, same whacky tabacky problem. Man he should have just said he was thankful to the bears for picking him and moved on. I'm glad the press picked up on his crybaby routine (gee wonder where he learned the crybaby stuff, perhaps from a certain coach whining about not going to a BCS bowl). Bad bull in my opinion, hope the guy gets his act together and uses his God given talent.

Didn't you know they teach the players at t.u. to whine.
