Joseph Jones and Dominique Kirk were starters as freshmen, which was also my freshman year at A&M. I went to every home game that year, before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon. I've seen these players, these fans and Aggie Basketball grow up these last 4 years. Kirk and Jones were obviously a HUGE part of that.

I can't believe that I'll never seen them play in an Aggie uniform ever again (and in Kirk's case, I'll probably never seen him play in any uniform again). Those two players will always have a special place in my memory, along with Acie Law and Chris Walker, as the foundation our basketball program (as we know it) was built on.

I just felt that they deserved a thread just to recognize and appreciate everything they've done for us.

Gig 'em Joe
Gig 'em Dominique

Thanks to JJ and DK for 4 glorious years of A&M hoops. It has been one hell of a ride and I thank you for it.

Feels like the end of an era... I will miss both of them greatly. Thanks so much for everything, guys! :gig:

Good luck and thanks to both of them. They have done a lot for our basketball program and it wouldn't be anywhere near where it is today without either of these guys.

I wouldn't go that far. He has the chance IMO to have a nice NBA career as a defensive specialist. He may not get drafted high, but I think he'll have his chance.

Definitely is the end of an era. Not seeing them out there will definitely seem odd next year.

Kirk has said he wants to coach, correct? Maybe he won't be in uniform anymore (or maybe he will given his defense ability), but maybe we'll see him on the sidelines somewhere after a while.

The question now.... With all of those guys gone now... Jones, AK, Kirk, Law & so on...... Can the new blood keep it going?????

Can Turge keep it going????

That's going to be the key now.... All the guys on next years team wont know what it's like to go 0-16 in Big XII play...

All they know is tu is their rival & most teams respect them now.... They didn't have to walk in the fire the way all the other guys did...

1 bad loss to tu or OU is not the same as 0-16.... Lets see how they do next year.... Here's to a great season next year... :gig:

We'll be fine next year. Sloan, Holmes, Davis, Elonu, Carter, and the rest of the team will be great.

It seems like we're pretty set at the 2, 3 and one of the forward positions. If Elonu continues to progress and Bowles or Loubeau can at least contribute, then I think it's a solid team. Wonder what happens at PG--does Sloan stay there or move to the 2 and which other PG steps up?

Kirk has a better chance of playing at the next level than Joe does. Joe is an absolute warrior who has fought through horrible knee trouble these last two years but that will keep him from playing anymore basketball. He has lost the explosiveness that he had as a freshman and a sophomore. Its really a sad situation. I admire all he did for this team during his 4 years here.

DC, I think you'lll see Harris take over PG duties immediately.

I hope you're right, but I really see Harris coming off the bench for a while at PG, with Sloan having most of the control. I just don't think Harris will be able to step in and take over the team that quickly. We'll see.

If Rose can do it at Memphis in that offense, then Harris should be able to do it in ours.

Agreed.... at 1st I didn't realize it but mid-way it was obvious that Turgeon doesn't ask anyone to go out and score 20 a night like some teams do...

He wants everyone to be a scoring threat & everone to play Defense... which obviously all coaches want that, but Turgeon puts extra effort in re-enforcing that thoguht process...

He wants everyone to be as close to 10 points or more if possible...

Considering how low of a scoring game College BBall can be... I guess having 50 points from your starters & 10 to 30 points from bench is a good scoring day in College BBall...

Harris wont be asked to lead the Big XII in scoring... just guide the offense....

I hope you're wrong about Jones, but I worry that you might be correct.

As for PG, I have no idea. I know nothing about Harris, other than his rankings and the fact that Turge recruited him which may be the most important thing. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out in non-conference.

But Pflugerville may be right, as well. I could see Sloan and Roland at the 1 and 2, but then I could picture a variety of lineups at this point. Such is the offseason. Regardless, Turge isn't scare to play a deep rotation, so I'm sure we'll see a lot of combos.

Joe has a much better shot at the pros. He's a traditional NBA power forward (6'9", 250+), with an aggressive style of play. He won't be worth a first round pick, but almost every team could use a guy like him off the bench. Throw in the fact that he's got a decent shooting touch and is solid from the charity stripe, I think we're looking at a mid-second round pick in Jones.

Kirk is a shooting guard in a point guards body. He isn't a true PG, and he's too small to make a team as a SG (especially with defense as a specialty). Look at other defensive specialists in the league (Bowen, Artest, Battier), they are all bigger than Kirk. As much as I liked him as a college player, I don't think Dominique has any chance at the NBA.

Okay, Loftin. You keep thinking that. The rest of us will stay over here in our place called 'reality' & won't disturb your fantasy world.

In all seriousness, you are right, Kirk doesn't have much of a chance at the NBA. But with Joe's knees he won't make it in the NBA.
