Do you agree with Bob Knight and his idea of getting rid of automatic bids to the tourney & just selecting the Best 65 teams?????
Me personally... I don't.... if you do that, there is no reason to have a Conference tourney.....

I'm a huge Bob Knight fan and agree with 90% of what he says, but I don't agree with this. The small schools that no one has heard of getting a shot at the big time programs for the championship is what makes March Madness so much fun.
I would, however, be in favor of having less conferences, which would create some more at-large spots.

I really don't like the idea of someone like Georgia getting in the tourney...so maybe there is some validity to his argument...
The auto-bid process allows for streaky teams not necessarily the BEST teams to get in...
Regardless...I find all of this talk humorous ESPECIALLY in light of the bowl-system fiasco...
If I were the BCS, I would be saying..."See, even IF we went to a playoff system, we'd still have the same arguments".
Knight also wants EVERYONE to play a "play-in" game (basically a field of 128)...and the winners get in. Now THAT is a flawed system...crazy old man!

The BCS is a great example of why Knight is wrong about this. If you blow it in your conference tournament and you didn't play well enough to get one of the 34 at-large bids, you don't have any right to complain. I don't think any "bubble" team that was left out had a legitimate shot to win the NCAA tournament if given the chance.

Speaking of Bob Knight, I just saw that he picked Pitt to win it all on ESPN. His reason was that they have "patience." I think it's refreshing for someone to give informed insight and say what they really think. Pitt may blow it in round 2 and make Knight look dumb, but at least he went out on a limb and made his picks interesting.
His good friend, Digger Phelps, had all 4 #1 seeds in the Final Four, with the #1 overall seed UNC winning it all. Is that really "expert" analysis?

Big surprise... Digger picked UNC....:bored: Digger never goes out on a limb.....
Also I hate that ESPN never goes out & asks the question of which team in a 9 seed or lower could be the Bracket Buster & be this years Cinderella team.....

Candidates I see this year are Villanova, Kansas State, Kentucky, St. Mary's, Baylor and San Diego. I think all of those teams have a legit shot to get to the sweet 16.

Villanova is my sleeper for the Sweet 16.
I was watching them all pick #1's and it was ridiculous. They sit there and talk about how it never happens year in and year out, yet they picked all 4 to make it. :wow:

Geez Pum why is this pro sports. I wish people would stop posted about college stuff on the pro board ;)
My opinion on it is the major conferences should not have automatic bids for the tourney. Aka Georgia should not be in

I think the most ridiculous thing was that 2 of them picked Kansas to win it all, and all of them had KU in the Final Four. Have they watched KU the last few years? The implosion is inevitable.
