I can't believe no one is talking about this game on here. I guess y'all forgot in all the excitement of the bracket being released. This game ended right as the selection show was starting, which was perfect timing for me. Houston beat the LA Lakers, 104-92.

Tracy McGrady had an off night (11 points, started out 0-7 from the field), but the rest of the team stepped up when needed. Rafer Alston hit 8 threes en route to a career-high 31 points. This win over the Lakers puts Houston in sole possession of first place in the West.:gig:

Go Rockets!

If you feel that way, I highly recommend the "Aggie Basketball" forum instead of the "Pro Sports/Sports Other" forum.

I gotta agree with Loftin 100% on this....

It's annoying as hell when you try to have a convo on a forum only to have someone jump in & spout some crap about your team or league, when all your looking for is others who share the same interest to give you a :gig: , or to throw in their opinions on why they agree with you.....

That ish gets old FAST!

Way to twist his words.... :bored:

You know that's not what he meant..... And from looking at all the posts dealing with the NBA.... quite a few folks on here are HUGE Mavs, Spurs & Rockets fans..... Who would have guessed that people from Texas would love those 3 teams.... :bored:

I hope you do... Cause you wont find me jumping on a Baseball thread, Rockets Thread, Mavs Thread, Texans thread or any other team or sports thread that I don't like saying how much it or they suck.....

The way I see it.... if you were in a store, restaurant, or any building for that matter, and 2 or 3 people were talking about the Rockets, would you go up to the 3 guys and just blurt out... COLLEGE BASKETBALL is better than the NBA?????? I doubt it.....

Exactly. There's been a lot of NBA talk on here, and quite a few NBA fans. One of the teams that many of us on here are a fan of (and the other NBA fans root for Houston's division rivals: SA, Dallas, NO) is doing something incredible for only the second time ever.

I have absolutely no interest in NASCAR or soccer. I think those are the two dumbest things to get into. If there's a NASCAR or soccer thread, I usually just avoid it.

This could EASILY be the single Greatest Season the Western Conference has ever had.... The only thing that could make it better is if every playoff series goes 7 games & the West wins the Finals in 4 games over some East team... preferably one of the Texas Teams... JMO...... (hopefully the Spurs ;) )....

But the West Playoffs are gonne be a ton of fun to watch this year... It could even be better than what the NCAA tourney puts out this year just because of the talent level the West is producing this year.....

How often have the Top 9 Teams in the West had 40 wins or more with over 15 games left in the season?????? :wow:

lol, I'm impressed to hear that from someone in Tennessee. When I used to live there, everyone cared a lot more about "racin' and wrastling'" than they did the NBA Finals with Michael Jordan. It drove me insane.

Yeah, the fact that all 8 teams that will make it in the West are competitive makes it more fun. The East, on the other hand, won't be worth watching until the 2nd round.

back on topic...battier did a great job shutting down Kobe (yes he had 24 points...yes that is shutting him down IMO)...

they had great spotlights on sportscenter showing several times Kobe going up for a shot w/ battier's hand right in his face (not fouling)...GREAT defense.

I follow the NBA very lightly...but this is an amazing run.
The every night surprise of WHO will be the one to step up...is amazing...all without their star center (well at least for 12 games)...

But I agree that the rest of your post is spot on... It is fun to watch.... the Wife is lovin it right now... She's been a Rockets fan since she was 7 & is just loving it.....

If we were still in San Antonio, we'd still be going to Rockets & Spurs games & she is so pyssed now...... Cause the Rockets are doing good now that we are in Bama......

not even Tiger's phenomenal finish @ the Arnold Palmer classic is getting much press (as opposed to what it would normally get)...

How many Tiger fans are on here compared to Rockets fans???????

Also quite a few threads have been posted about the Mavs, Rockets & Spurs..... with the Rockets going on a 22 game streak, it is odd that no one was talking about it....

I could be wrong, but I don't remember too many Golf threads or threads about Tiger... so not hearing about him on Aggiefans isn't as much of a shock..... JMO....

not on AF...just talking about perspective...both events were great stories that were briefly covered w/ respect to the NCAA tourney...on SC...

I think the point polish was making was that more people care about the NCAA right now...which is true...which is why we are talking about why the rockets aren't being talked about...;)

I don't think we have to have a huge praise-a-thon after every Rockets victory...although each one is great.

yes wrestling is big...

more than wrestlemania...is the small market/small town wrestling events. There is a town (which probably rivals for the most trailer-homes, per-capita) that has a HUGE turnout every Friday or Saturday night for wrasslin'. It is a wonderful argument AGAINST the evolution of mankind...:bored:

Actually Me and Loftin kept pro basketball threads from going the way of the dodo bird on Aggiefans before you ever got here.

I stated why no one was talking about it. Hell the rockets weren't even in the first 10 stories of sportcenter today. You made it out to be more than it was.

When did I ever state the NBA was not popular on this board?

The streak is great and I hope the Rockets win the championship, but I doubt they will

Normally I'd agree with that .... But this isn't your every day run of the mill NBA season.... While I'm not a Rockets fan... It's understandable for them to be pumped about it..... 22 game winning streaks aren't common....

Even in MLB with more games it doesn't happen..... In the NFL it's nearly impossible..... 22 straight is HUGE IMO....

Never said you did.... My comments were towards the way people just jump into a convo & blurt out crap that contributes nothing to the convo...

Why not???? They have just a good of a shot as any other team in the West.... Defense wins Chips & the Rockets are playing pretty damn good defense right now.....

No I gave a reason. NBA regular season anything VS Brackets. Brackets win. Sportscenter would have started with the rockets if they were the biggest story. In fact they were also behind Tiger and the Nuggets (not even 1st NBA story). If the Rockets would have played the Lakers Saturday it would have been much bigger story.

Rockets have no post presence on offense or defense outside of the ancient Mutumbo on defense. Bigger teams will hurt them. Guard oriented teams will continue to lose to them. A healthy Spurs and Utah will beat the Rockets hands down IMO. I think they get out of the first round but not win the whole thing

Pumchavas28
03-17-2008, 11:38 AM
A team scoring 162 points trumps every NBA story... how often does that happen???? That's even rarer than 22 straight....

What Tiger is doing, is also a big story.....

And the ESPN stands to make money off of the Tourney because of everyone putting money into their Brackets....

But the Rockets story is a huge one in it's own right & shouldn't be dismissed.... It's still one of the Top 4 stories on ESPN out of how many?????

Also I think the Rockets could give team fits... Sure their post play is suspect, but even so.... The Rockets are doing things differently.... They are finding ways to draw out the bigs from other teams leaving the paint open & that is what is making them scary....

It's not an easy thing to do... The only thing that could kill the Rockets is Houston & by that I mean they could be peaking too early & could burn out come the playoffs...
