A third postseason tournament has been made to compete with the NIT. The Gazelle Group, which sponsors several preseason tournaments, has made a 16-team tournament with the hopes of competing with the NIT for the NCAA tournament's rejects. I read in the Houston Chronicle this morning that Houston had already accepted a bid. Looking at the NIT field, I think the NIT got whoever they wanted after the NCAA picked their teams.

So, what do y'all think of a third postseason tournament?

I just looked on the website and there are not any teams on it yet. I wonder if they decided not to hold the tourney.

They are supposed to have announced the teams today, but it's not on the website yet. The NIT hasn't put their bracket on the web either, though.

The website says FOX College Sports. So basically, nobody will see it.

I'm surprised that Cougar High did not get an NIT invite.

Did you notice the championship will be a best of 3 series? 1st game at the higher seeds home, 2nd on the road, and the 3rd game, if needed, back at the higher seed's court?

I don't mind another tournament. It gives kids a chance to participate and be competitive in the post-season. I think our first NIT birth gave us the experience we needed in a tournament setting to beat Syracuse in the first round when we made it 2 years ago. i wouldn't be surprised if teams get post-season experience through these smaller tournaments and it benefits them further down the road.

I don't like the idea of a third tournament and highly doubt that it will last long. Who is going to keep up with a third tier tournament? After all, these teams were not good enough to get into the NCAA or the NIT.

Coaches will like it. Even if you didn't have a good year, those extra games and practices will help you develop your young talent for the future. That extra experience is valuable.
As far as money goes, I'm sure it'll be easy to fund. The participating schools host the games, and the Gazelle Group will get some money from FCS.
