Have ya'll heard of the new possible rules????

40 Second Clock instead of the 25 Second Clock
Any block below the waist on a player already being blocked is a Chop Block, regardless of where they are on the field.
No more 5 yard face mask penalties.... If you accidentaly grab a face mask & let go immediatly & have no impact on the runner & the safety of the play, then there is no flag.
If the ball is kicked out of bounds on kick-offs, instead of the 35 the receiving team will get it at the 40. :wow:
Teams will be penalized for their 1st Sideline warning. Some possible changes will be...

Replays used on fumbles leading to immediate recovery.
A coach who succesfully challenges a play, keeps his challenge & can use it for a maximum of 2 times.
A penalty will be added for so called HORSE COLLARS
And there could be changes to the rule on Helmet to Helmet contact....

Thoughts?????

1. 40 secs is too damn long.... i like that there are penalties called on it alot. keeps teams on their toes.
2. i dont like any block below the wasit being a chop block but i think they need to be alot more strict about what a chop block is (and call many more blocks chop blocks)
3. hate it... unless they do away with the 5yd all together (the accidental facemask) and only call the 15 yd version.
4. not horrible... should mean more points.
5. wouldnt mind this one as well.

For the 40 second clock... This is how it would work...

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=774255

Previously, teams had 25 seconds to snap the football after the referee marked the ball ready for play. But the amount of time taken to mark the ball ready varied from conference to conference, so instituting a 40-second clock, similar to what the NFL uses, should standardize the process nationally.

"The concern was from one conference to the next, there was enough variation in the length of time it took the referee to make the ball ready for play," said SEC coordinator of officials Rogers Redding, the NCAA's next secretary-rules editor. "Hopefully this will eliminate that and allow a more consistent time to get the ball snapped."

The 40-second clock will be used unless the game is stopped for injury and change of possession. The 25-second clock will be used coming out of timeouts.

Previously, the game clock stopped when a runner went out of bounds and didn't re-start until the next snap. The proposed change will make an out-of-bounds play just like a first down, after which the clock is started when the official marks the ball ready for play. But the clock will not start until the snap during the final two minutes of each half to protect the two-minute offenses.

40 Second Clock instead of the 25 Second Clock - NOPE
Any block below the waist on a player already being blocked is a Chop Block, regardless of where they are on the field. - The Dorsey Rule...I'm indifferent
No more 5 yard face mask penalties.... If you accidentaly grab a face mask & let go immediatly & have no impact on the runner & the safety of the play, then there is no flag. - NOPE
If the ball is kicked out of bounds on kick-offs, instead of the 35 the receiving team will get it at the 40. :wow: - NOPE
Teams will be penalized for their 1st Sideline warning. - Absolutely not...gives officials too much power (they could call it EVERY down if they wanted to)Some possible changes will be...

Replays used on fumbles leading to immediate recovery. - I'm ok w/ that
A coach who succesfully challenges a play, keeps his challenge & can use it for a maximum of 2 times. - I think this should pass...no need for a coach to be penalized for something the refs got wrong
A penalty will be added for so called HORSE COLLARS - Absolutely agree
And there could be changes to the rule on Helmet to Helmet contact.... - Absolutely agree...but depends on the rules.

Thoughts?????

40 Second Clock instead of the 25 Second Clock This is stupid, there's no reason to extend it an extra 15 seconds. Imagine what it could do to a team that is in the last minute waiting for the ball to come back to attempt to win the game.

Any block below the waist on a player already being blocked is a Chop Block, regardless of where they are on the field. Sounds Good.
No more 5 yard face mask penalties.... If you accidentaly grab a face mask & let go immediatly & have no impact on the runner & the safety of the play, then there is no flag. I do agree with no more "incidental" facemasks, but if its flagrant it deserves the full 15 yards.
If the ball is kicked out of bounds on kick-offs, instead of the 35 the receiving team will get it at the 40. :wow: 5 extra yards isn't a big deal.
Teams will be penalized for their 1st Sideline warning. tu rule? Some possible changes will be...

Replays used on fumbles leading to immediate recovery.
A coach who succesfully challenges a play, keeps his challenge & can use it for a maximum of 2 times.
A penalty will be added for so called HORSE COLLARS
And there could be changes to the rule on Helmet to Helmet contact....

Thoughts?????

Can't we just leave the freakin rules alone???

College football is about the last "true" football "league" left since the NFL doesn't allow anyone to hit anyone anymore!

I HATE the idea of a 40 second clock. One problem with pro football is that a team can drain the clock with more than 2 minutes left.

40 Second Clock instead of the 25 Second Clock - Verry bad idea. If this is the case then a one possession game might be over with 10 minutes left in 4th quarter. I don't think that's much of an exaggeration.
Any block below the waist on a player already being blocked is a Chop Block, regardless of where they are on the field. - I myself am not a fan. I don't mind the Chop Block not being called. It wouldn't upset me if this was the rule though.
No more 5 yard face mask penalties.... If you accidentaly grab a face mask & let go immediatly & have no impact on the runner & the safety of the play, then there is no flag. - This is fine. Wouldn't make a difference to me as long as the 15 yard penalty isn't called everytime there is incidental contact.
If the ball is kicked out of bounds on kick-offs, instead of the 35 the receiving team will get it at the 40. :wow: - I would prefer the ball be placed on the 40. It would support a tougher special teams.
Teams will be penalized for their 1st Sideline warning. - I don't like it too much. It could be a very liberal rule if enforced too harshly. Some possible changes will be...

Replays used on fumbles leading to immediate recovery. - Indifferent. Just let em play.
A coach who succesfully challenges a play, keeps his challenge & can use it for a maximum of 2 times. - Yes. Good call.
A penalty will be added for so called HORSE COLLARS - I think it's ok either way.
And there could be changes to the rule on Helmet to Helmet contact.... - I can't really comment. What they really need to do is have strict enforcement for the sidelines when it comes to keeping players and coaches off the field. Nobody should be on the field except the 22 players who impact the game. It's really stupid that it isn't enforced well. Also I think that all teams (including the Aggies) should be penalized for not tucking their jerseys in. They need to enforce the rules in place.

Are y'all reading the 40 second clock rule? I think it's a great idea. I hate when the refs take their sweet ass time spotting the ball.

I agree, but maybe they need to regulate the spot time. I dunno, but 40secs sounds bad.
