A Blue Chip 2009 kid has A&M on his radar... or at least an offer....
Athlete Russell Shepard from Cypress Ridge in Houston has an A&M Offer... Granted he has about 10 others...

I really hope Sherman can keep his little streak going....
If he can pull off a Top 10 class next year, he would have officially arrived & coupled with a 10 win season this year, & he could very well turn heads...
Otherwise, kids will see him as just another horse in the marry-go-round that is the A&M HC job now...

this junior day coming up is gonna be BIG guys
tu grabbed some pretty important guys and this is the junior day sherm is going to looking for commits

this junior day coming up is gonna be BIG guys
Understatement.....
It's gonna be huge for the future of A&M's program....
Sherm was given a Top 15 class on every site & on some he maintained & other sites he fell as far down as 25....
If he can land HUGE commits this weekend & keep up with the Jones'... he could set himself up for the future....
While they can all switch later on down the road... So long as there is nothing damning in the future.

the only thing is....how do you sell loston and all the other defense guys this weekend when you don't have a DC?
how do you sell a DC on a set staff already around him?
how do you pick up any decent DC this late in the game?
i'm not saying the sky is falling, but let's just say, i can't wait to hear any good news regarding either of these situations
AWolf02

We very well could have DC by this weekend...
Pumchavas28
02-11-2008, 02:13 PM
I agree WesTX.....
It's a sticky situation & I think AWolf02 is also correct that a DC could be named by this weekend....
But Sherman needs to put a step on it, cause time is against A&M right now.

i would expect for the DC to be named by this weekend at least.......

i really hope they have a press conference of some kind for it because if ur sherm, how do you spin it?
well, we didn't consider or he came up behind herring the first time, but we think he's actually going to work out for us better than our first hire....and we didn't get muschaump....and bob davie didn't wanna come home....and reggie thought it was such a good job when he got here that he immediately started interviewing for auburn and the cowboys and who knows who else...
right now i think best case scenario, realistically, is getting an asst. coach from the NFL who has some sort of tie to the state of texas who is a diamond in the rough and really puts attitude back into the D
anybody see any other better scenario here?

The only NFL option is Holland....
That being said I think it is going to be Davie and it will happen soon.

i like the thought of davie...i guess i haven't really formed a full-circle opinion of him coming back mainly because ive heard so many say it's not a possibility because he hasn't wanted to get back into coaching

Doesn't say yes or no..... Which more often than not, means yes.....
The rare case would be Les Miles staying at LSU... but more often than not when a Coach says No Comment, that means yes.....
Also that story is by Olin Buchanon, not someone who has close ties with A&M or someone I have grown to trust...
I'll wait to hear from Davie, Sherman, Looch, Hop, or Tarp....
I'd like the higher from a nostalgic sense... but would worry about the rust....
zrf2002
02-11-2008, 03:24 PM
exactly what pum said....
there is plenty of coach speak in davie's comments.....
"You never lose that (love for coaching)," Davie said via phone from his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. "I don't think you ever lose that. But life is pretty good here."
Davie wouldn't comment about rumors that he might be reunited with A&M coach Mike Sherman (http://collegefootball.rivals.com/viewcoach.asp?Coach=2119) in College Station. "I don't think I can comment on that at all," he said. "Mike and I are good friends. Any comments should come from Mike."
i guess we can check out the flight tracker for the next few days to see if anything from scottsdale is coming into easterwood......

I think the only problem is the same problem with every coaching hire....
$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Davie makes a good chunk of change at ESPN... it's going to take quite a bit more that what A&M was paying Herring to get Davie to come in & be the DC...
Also... the horrible back end to to this is the following year...
Davie is known as a good Coach period....
If he turns A&M's defense around WAY TO FAST, and by some great act of God has the A&M Defense ranked in the Top 25 next year, you can kiss Davie goodbye after this season...
Some school some where will try & pull him away & then well be in the same boat we are in now....
zrf2002
02-11-2008, 03:47 PM
yes, but if davie is able to do that (which i would have no proble with...) then, you get into whether or not davie wants to become a head coach again.... if he does leave, i would think we would be able to get just about any DC we would want at that time.... we had a lot of years of success with a lot of coaching turnover in the past. that just says a lot about your program overall when other schools want our coaches. the last few years, i dont think we have had too many schools beating down the doors to get any of our coaches....

true....... hopfully if this scenario happens, we can indeed build on the success he brings in this time around..... that is a long way off though and i am not really concerned with that at this time. we just need to get a DC who can truely bring back the wrecking crew!!!!

Like I said Sherman will meet with Davie and offer him the job. So the ball will be in Davie's court. So if the talks are true that he wants to coach again, then he will be our next DC. Davie is Shermans first choice and should of been hired the first time around. From what I have been told money is no issue.

The are reports that it's 80% done already from someone who knows whats going on. The backup plan is to go after Mattison and steal him away from the Ravens. Sherman wanted to give Davie first shot on taking the job. Who said Davie said no?

Ok just thought they might of had a reason. My brother told me awhile ago that Looch still thinks Davie is in play, and my guy seems to still think it's 80% done already. So I don't know what to think.

Shepard CAN NOT throw
I see us offering him as a QB but him playing WR or DB in college. Just like he said he will play anywhere and expects to be All-American where ever he plays.
