Looks like the Heat will trade Shaq to the Suns for Shaun Marion today. I'm not a huge NBA fan, but I think the Suns are crazy for going through with this trade. Shaq is still good enough to be an impact player in this league, but he is definitely too old and slow to keep up with the Suns fast paced offense. This will only hurt them. If I were a Heat fan, I'd be very happy getting Marion paired up with Wade. Good trade for them. The Suns could have gotten a better player for Marion.

With Shaq being on the trading block, I'm really surprised that the Mavs didn't make a run at him. Seems to me that Shaq would have been a much better fit on that team.

On a side note, its crazy how many quality big men the West has now.

I don't know Shaq was old and slow when he left LA for Miami, but the trade definitely energized him for several years. Maybe this will do the same thing for him and he will step it up again.

He couldn't before he was traded to Miami. But for a few years he didn't get hurt at all suddenly. It was amazing.

I wouldn't trade Marion for Shaq...

This is just another opportunity for Shaq to win a championship without Kobe. I'm all for it.:gig:

The Suns are an elite team who can't seem to get over the hump of the Western Conference Finals. This trade immediately puts them higher. A Shaq/Stoudemire frontcourt with Nash dishing it in will be a force. The Heat, on the other hand, have a solid player who will last longer than Shaq and give them an excuse to tank this season and get another lottery pick to play with Marion and Wade. Great trade for both teams.

I gotta disagree with Loftin. This is no way is an equal trade. The Heat will come out of this smelling like a rose. Shaq is old...he's getting injured much more often. He doesn't have the stamina he once had. I think if he can stay healthy and that's a big if..it might help the suns out a little bit, but this isn't going to be one of those oh my lord the suns are going to the finals and there's nothing anybody can do about it deals. The suns love to run up and own the floor...Shaq can't do that. Oh well we'll just have to wait and see.

You gotta remember, this trade is contingent on O'Neal passing a physical. If they determine he is going to be perpetually hurt or can't get healthy -- the trade won't happen.

I actually agree with Loftin on something....they don't need Shaq to run the court. They need Shaq when teams like SA with Duncan slow the game down...before the trade they would be no match in that type game....now they can...The Suns will still run and Shaq has a great chance to stick it to the Lakers....win/win for all involved.

The heat unload his salary...make a run at some free agents...have a chance for top pick and have marion....they win too

I see the Suns getting burned by this....
