The pick 'em contest officially went live tonight (you should've all received an e-mail).
We already have 8 entrants in the first full hour. You can submit your picks by going to:
http://aggiefans.com/forums/contests/ncaafb/week1
After you submit your pick, post here (this will keep the thread near the top and fresh so people see it and don't forget to submit picks).
This week's deadline is 12:01 AM, Thursday, September 1. No picks will be accepted after that point.

Done and it sucked. The games that can go either way are the ones that is going to bite me on the ass. I have wrong picks for Pitt/Notre Dame, Baylor/SMU, and Maryland/Navy. Among others. I may have to throw away this week.

I was going to do that. But I don't know if they will be as good this year without Polanco and Eckel (sp).

yeah but is maryland going to be any good this year either? The first week is always a crapshoot no matter how much reasearch you do (vly)...

:D It really is not fair putting the Baylor/SMU game on there. I mean there is a real possibilyt that the game could go on forever with as bad as they both are.

I haven't done it, but I will. Regarding Maryland/Navy, just so you know, the Terps have some serious issues, QB questions, there most exprienced OL man went down for the season. The ACC isn't easy, and with Boston College coming on board, I think the Terps will have trouble. The game is going to be played in Baltimore, I'm picking Navy. BTW, I always enjoying going to dinner in Annapolis right on the bay, pass the naval academy, the stadium isn't big at all, but I always smile, because I know that is where Roger Staubach played his college ball, Roger the Dodger is and always will be one of my favorite NFL players. :gig:

vlyrock,
When all the entries are in, will there be a spread sheet (Or whatever) with all the picks so we can watch and see how we are doing?
Is this a vB plug-in or are you doing it all manually?

JohnL, first off welcome to the site. Stay tuned Vly usually comes on in the evening due to work. Jag, who is on right now, will be able to answer your question, becasue he and Vly put in all the work to get the submission forms done. Again, welcome to the site, glad you decided to give the pick'em a shot. :gig:

yes there is a status page.... all it lists right now is your total score and your ranking compared to everybody else.

John,
Currently the only thing you will see is the final scoreboard (I can update it each night). This is not a vbulletin function and something I (with help) have built into Vbulletin. It automatically scores in the datbase, so there's zero chance of human error. I can get it to match the games and score -- but am still trying to find an effective way to "show" other's picks.
I hope everyone bares with me while this happens (if this happens), but if need be, I can prepare a spreadsheet that shows everybody's picks each week to avoid any "foul" cries if somebody wins.

Now that the contest is officially closed for Week 1, you can go to http://aggiefans.com/forums/contests/ncaafb/week1 to view everybody else's picks. I will attempt to update the results after each game, but for sure, they will be updated every night.
From the standings page you can click any user and see the selections they have. On the page listing their picks...correct picks will be green, incorrect picks will be red.

Wessimo, in case it isn't clear, you may still win the BigXII championship tickets, all you missed was this weeks games, still plenty of season left and there will be new games next week. I'm thinking the next round of games will be up Sunday or Monday, so make sure you don't miss the next deadline. Good luck in the Pick'em :gig:

Man, deadlines are deadlines. That is one of the biggest complaints at the other site about their contest. Sorry, wessimo, but if an exception is made for you, then where does it stop? Welcome to the site & good luck during the pick'em contest. :gig:
TwelfthAG
09-01-2005, 05:03 PM
In the future the deadline will be later. It's so early this week because of today's (thursday's) game.
Vlyrock
09-01-2005, 06:11 PM
The deadline is a deadline as Dustin said, but it was also an oversight by me. The original list of games we had listed had a game that was to be played tonight. We switched games early on -- and now, there are no games to be played tonight. I will not reopen the submissions though because I did announce the deadline from Day 1. In the future, we will try and hold all Saturday games so the contest will stay open longer. It's just this week, the lack of good matchups makes it hard to find games for pick 'em.
Jag makes me sound like a jerk (...but I wouldn't expect it) -- and I can sympathize with you...but it's better to stick by what's in writing then to make exceptions. I hope you understand Wessimo. Week 2 will be open this weekend (probably Sunday night) for you to start submitting your picks. Make sure you get in then. :gig:
