Texas Tech starting safety Vincent Meeks could face up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine after he allegedly violated his probation on a forgery charge.

Meeks' legal entanglement will not keep him from playing for the Red Raiders, Tech coach Mike Leach said.

Sorry but dude showed have been showed the door after this **** originally, i can see minor **** getting brushed over, but forgery is pretty serious.

Oh well, that's Leach's problem if he doesn't want to run a tight ship like Fran does. Maybe Tech will be the Oakland Raiders of the NCAA(tons of criminals, with the slogan "just win, baby").

Forgery--its only a felony. :D And I don't know what Leach is talking about. If they revoke his probation, its going to be a little hard for him to contribute behind the walls of one of Texas' finest big houses.

while this sucks, I hope he punished to show other players that they can't play around with that stuff

from all accounts, VM was on probation for something, we do not know the level of his involvement, there are a number of reasons that he could have been given the charges he was given...

Basically he had two counts against him, he was on deferred adjudication for one, and the other was dismissed... Seems there was a problem with the probation process and he went voluntarily to clear it up... When he showed up, they arrested him for the first charge AGAIN...

the charge, could be for a number of things that neither you nor I are privy to the whole story... he could have written a hot check, he could have stolen a check, he could have been given the check to cash by a relative that was stolen, he could have been with a friend that got caught with stolen checks that he knew nothing of, a myriad of things could have led to this charge... From everything I have read, no one but probably VM and ML know the true story of EXACTLY what he did or didn't do....

however, if there is a real problem here than (as bad as it sucks) they will need to act on it. i actually like the approach leach has taken, i think that with his knowledge of this sort of thing leach may know alot more than we do. leach is standing up for meeks at least until something is proven.

ok so obviously someone is butthurt, aggie 07 saw that i didnt mean anything by it, but obviously (as indicated by your "true colors" statement) your enraged. wasnt my intent to piss anyone off and if its really a big issue then i will gladly remove it. the only person from that whole deal i know is cody scates cause i went to high school with him....the rest of that stuff could all be BS i KNOW NOTHING of what any aggies have done illegal and i dont care. i am aware that people make mistakes and obviously vince meeks did too. but dont give me that true colors line because you dont know me from adam, obviously your true colors are to get bent out of shape for something posted on a message board. Irreguardless, MY FREAKING BAD

absolutely uncalled for, inaccurate, & totally classless--I figured you'd be above that redraider, but I guess eventually everyone's true colors shine through.

And he wasn't arrested for the 1st charge again. He was arrested because he didn't meet the terms of his adjudication which is called probation violation--when you have community service, you are supposed to perform it. When you are required to meet with a probation officer you better do it. Now the guy has two felony charges on his record & is looking at jail time. People screw up, thats why they are given 2nd chances. Its the ones that are given a 2nd chance & screw up again that frustrate me.

Dustin is absolutely right

Meeks was accused of trying to cash a $475 illegal computer-generated check in 2003 that was made out to him, Sumrow said. He pleaded guilty but was not convicted because the court gave him deferred adjudication, Sumrow said. If he had completed his probation without any incidents, the charge would have been removed from his record.

He screwed up and was given a second chance, he chose not to take it, he needs to be cut and put in jail.

Meeks failed to report to a probation officer for several months, didn't pay court costs and failed to complete community service and other programs, Sumrow said.

Why can't people talk about the issue at hand. no one here said oh average tech football player or made fun of the program, we talked about the incident before us like adults. It seemed pretty cut and dry unless you have other evidence to support otherwise.

You post a pic of 22 athletes who have been arrested over a ten year period. Actually, 21 athletes & one who is friends of some former players but whatever. 3 of those are shown to be arrested, yet there aren't even charges listed. 4 of those are have inaccurate information & one claims to be Joe Weber & I can tell you that is not Joe Weber.

No one on this board was saying that the kid is a thug, that the program was out-of-control, or anything. All that was said is that the guy screwed up (btw, regardless of the situation, when you take deferred adjudication, you plead guilty to that charge. If it was something that he was innocent of, then he should've never taken deferred in the first place), got a 2nd chance, screwed up again & now may be going to jail. We've had the same discussions about OSU players & the pokes on here didn't get all bent out of shape.

And don't you get all bent of shape for what I said about your true colors showing through. Can you imagine the outrage if I went to a tech board & posted a pic of all the tech players who have been arrested. I was just trying to give you the heads up, that that pic wasn't going to be received well. That being said, glad that common sense has prevailed & you took it down.
