So this has been coming for awhile now, but it looks like Thompson's departure is a done deal. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8UB49H00&show_article=1

I know that a few of yall have said you support him, but I wonder who yall are backing now? There is talk of him throwing his support behind McCain. But I wonder if his supporters would make that change. Just curious what your thoughts are on that.

I was undecided but I would rank them:

1. Thompson
2. Huckabee
3. Romney
4. Gullani
5. Paul

I like Ron Pauls domestic ideas about smaller government but he is totally unelectable.

You could probably say that about the whole Republican field. So no love for McCain? He doesn't seem like the natural substitute for Thompson since Thompson was supposed to be the true old school conservative in the race and McCain is the moderate maverick.

I also wonder if he hung around the race long enough to take votes away from Huckabee in SC. If he had dropped out prior to that, I'd guess that Huck woulda beaten McCain down there.

It's an interesting race, at least.

I'm excited to see Thompson out. I kind of liked Thompson, but he was taking primary votes away from Huckabee. I wouldn't mind McCain, Romney or Huckabee winning the primary. I personally like Huckabee the most. McCain is by far the most qualified man to be president, but I don't trust that he'll do what it takes to fix our SEVERELY broken economy. Lastly Romney may not be my most liked canidate, but he would probably do a good job with the economy.

I don't like the dem canidates.

Two words:

McCain-Feingold

Other than that you can fill in the blank:

McCain-_______

and it probably sucks as a law.

Thompson backed McCain-Feingold, though.

I'm not advocating McCain. That was kinda my point: the seem to be on opposite sides of the Republican spectrum, so the speculation of the support seems a bit puzzling.

I hope Thompson made enough of a splash that someone will put him on the ticket as a VP.

Me too. Romney was my number two, so I guess I'll be voting for him now. Still disappointed that Thompson's dropped out, though... Too many people voting on personality over substance, IMO.

Yeah, Huckabee was my number 2, but I'm becoming less impressed with him. I'm honestly not sure who I'll vote for now, probably either Huckabee or McCain. Neither choice excites me, but I dislike Romney, Giuliani and Paul.

By substance over personality you mean the guy who skipped a debate to go on Leno? ;)

 Thompson didn't really make a splash. I'd go with him as VP though.
