watching and comparing his video to mike's...the similarities jump out at you

i think the things he does better than mike is changing direction(shorter stride, stronger plant leg) but the speed looks the same--both 4.4

boys, this gets rid of our punt return troubles....can't wait to see this guy tote the rock :gig:

here is a conflicting report on dallasnews.com

http://recruitingbuzz.beloblog.com/

Buzz tried to reach DeSoto running back Cyrus Gray (http://dallasnews.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=55739&Sport=1)on Monday night but our text message unfortunately wasn't returned.

Gray did talk to AggieYell.com, a Texas A&M fan site, and updated Buzz's good friend Jeff Tarpley on his trip to Gainesville. It was a confusing interview in which Gray said he was planning an official visit to A&M on Jan. 25, only also to say that his decision could be imminent, seemingly ruling out the Aggies and favoring either Notre Dame or Florida.

Gray's high school coach, Dave Meadows, suggested Florida has a better chance of landing teammate Adrian Bushell, a Sunshine State native, than Gray.
At least Gray had us in mind earlier in the day when he talked to Tarpley.
"I will be making an announcement either late this week or next week," Gray told Tarpley. "I wanted to do it on Feb. 2, but I don't think I am going to wait. I would like to do it on Fox 4 (a local TV station) or maybe with the Dallas Morning News."

here is more from dallasnews.com today on cyrus...

The word on the street is that DeSoto running back Cyrus Gray (http://dallasnews.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=55739&Sport=1)has already made his college decision.
His coach, Dave Meadows, pretty much insinuated to Rivals.com that Gray didn't have all that great of a visit to Florida this past weekend. That would narrow it down to Texas A&M and Notre Dame.
Down to those two, the Aggies make the most sense, considering how much contact A&M has had with Gray in the last few days, and with new coach Mike Sherman's emphasis on recruiting the Dallas area.
A commitment from Gray would be good for Sherman. Can you say Darren Lewis and Greg Hill?
I did trade text messages this morning with Gray, who when asked if he was about to commit replied, "I haven't yet."
We expect to talk to Cyrus later today.

To piggy back on this & to go hand in hand with the "LIFE AFTER MCGEE" thread...

Should Gray choose A&M... After Goodson & Lane both enter their names in the Draft next year (I would expect Goodson to do it, just saying)...

Who do you expect to take the helm after Goodson & Lane both go Pro???

The obvious easy out answer is whoever earns it or who cares it's too early, but this is for convo purposes....

Cyrus Gray (Fish or Red-shirt Fish)
Keondra Smith (Senior)
Bradley Stephens (Red-shirt Soph)
Cornell Tarrant (Red-Shirt Soph)

Thoughts????

Or could it be a combo of two or three of them???

zrf2002

i think it would be gray and some of both stephens and tarrant, whoever can prove it on the field the best.... smith may very well be left out in this situation.

so why the hell is Scout.com reporting that Cyrus committed to A&M? :spy:

anyone have Scout and know what that article that Vly posted the link to says?

AWolf02

I see Smith as a situational back with Gray and Stephens getting the majority of the carries. As for Tarrant, he goes to the defensive side of the ball as a strong safety type or maybe even LB if he can really bulk up with the new S&C coach.

The Massacre

personally, i'd rather see Tarrant out there instead of Smith. but that's just me.

Basically, Websider got numerous sources that said that Cyrus had committed and they asked if they could report it and no one said no. Cryus wants to make an announcement which is why he's saying he hasn't committed yet.

Funny thing is, about an hour before this story broke, Hop got a call from Gray and when he answered, Cyrus said, "Hey Coach Sherman, this is Cyrus". He dialed the wrong number, but apparently, he was calling to tell Sherman his decision.

So what you are trying to tell us is that Hop is really Coach Sherman? I guess that is why he hasn't posted much here lately. He's been really busy recruiting.

I hate that recruits get to have press conferences and pull this kind of crap. I'm glad he's an aggie, but c'mon man -- you don' t need to have a press conference and all that other stuff.

I agree 100%!!!! It makes them out to be more than they are before they even do anything in College.... I'd love to see some kid who wants to be a Doctor hold a press conference on which University he wants to go to for the next 6 to 8 years for his Medical Degree........

is it me (after looking @ his highlight tape), but are most of his long runs out of the QB slot...zone read?

not sure he is a pure running back...but I don't know the details of his HS career like some of you...

Desoto runs a Spread offense.

whitelightnin_23
01-28-2008, 12:11 PM
was he a qb in HS? or did they just run a lot of direct snap zone read plays?

Burnetaggie99
01-28-2008, 12:24 PM
He was a RB but they run alot of that direct snap, zone read, option, and he lines up at QB in the Wild Hog Formation like McFadden does at Arkie. This is why Fran recruited him so hard. He's perfect for the Spread offense.

Pumchavas28
01-28-2008, 12:29 PM

That's why he told Rivals he was already Commited to A&M before he even spoke with Sherman.....

http://tamu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=767001 (http://tamu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=767001)

Fran hit him up hard & was more than likely (in Fran's eyes) the gem of the class....
