For some odd reason, if you go to www.texags.com (http://www.texags.com), they are now asking you to fill out an anonymous survey about your age, job, income, interests, etc. Its 38 questions long. Not sure what would make them want/need to know this info. I think I might fill it out (with totally wrong answers) just so I can put my suggestions for them in the last question.

It's none of their buisness how much I make... granted anyone can look up my pay scale easily....

And it's none of their buisness if Loftin like long walks on the beach with Lane.... ;)

I just filled it out. Apparently, I felt like being a 38 year old, female lawyer that did not go to A&M, but is a fan. I also make over $250K per year and plan to buy just about everything possible this year.

I guarantee you they are getting paid. What good would that info be to them on that kind of website?

I bet they aren't getting paid directly to conduct the survey. Assuming the intro page is correct (I know brandon is the root of all evil and would never tell the truth blah blah blah) they are just doing it to get a demographic profile of their users.

This is similar to TV stations and nielson ratings. My family was a nielson family for two years and they take down all that kind of informatino for each person in the house. When we had people over we were also supposed to log their sex and age into the box on the tv to indicate what they were watching.

Ultimately this will just allow them to target their advertising towards companies that want to reach these consumers. This allows them to get the information that most websites ask for when you get a username and password. Although this seems a little more intrusive than the standard information.

No offense but you guys really seem paranoid about that site. I know the moderation is way overboad but that doesn't mean he is a completely evil person, he is just trying to make money operating a site that matches his values (however twisted they may be).

He has just never done anything to earn my trust over there, so I will never give him the benefit of the doubt. I know he is trying to make money over there, but the fact that he is so afraid of his competition makes me laugh.

I completely agree about his fear of competition. But then again what restaurant in town posts adds for their competition in the restaurant. You don't see adds for walmart in Target either. Texags is not a government entity and therefore, does not have to grant you freedom of expression.

Additionally what has he done that did the opposite of "earn your trust." I have never really seen him do anything other than what HE thought was best for his business while not causing any harm to people. That is about all you should ever expect from a business.

So, have I earned your trust?  ;) I can guarantee you'll never have to fill out a survey for Aggiefans.com.

I do agree with you to a point (we didnt start this thread) but there have been a number of threads over there saying the same thing we are. Their own userbase is somewhat "up in arms" about it.

I think he is overall a good guy and aggie but he has made a number of mistakes over the years which has caused his site to get out of control to a point where the "other" sites started popping up (matt created aggiefans for such a purpose). While we are nowhere near as large we have grown quite a bit since the site was first opened.

I think texags has made a lot of improvements and got a lot better control of their site since this site was started.

Its not their lack of ads for rival sites. Its how they ban you for even mentioning one. During lunch today, go to a McDonalds and tell the manager that you would like for them to have curly fries like Jack in the Box. Is that manager going to throw you out of the store and not allow you to come back??
