Don't know if anyone knew this, but from all the New Coaches from last year... they averaged 5 wins & 7 losses among them.
Of all the new coaches... 13 were in BCS Conferences....
Of those 13 BCS New Coaches... Only 5 finished with 7 wins or more & 1 coach finished 6-6.....
Which situation do you think is comparable to the one Sherman is taking over?
By situation, I am talking, Conference Competition, Team Talent, Leadership within the Team, Fan Base, University dedication to impoving program.
Will he have A&M winning like
Boston College = 11-3 (Considered great by their fans)
Arizona State = 10-3 (Considered good by their fans)
Michigan State = 7-6 (Considered average by their fans)
Alabama = 7-6 (Considered bad by their fans)
Indiana = 7-6 (Considered good by their fans)
or will he A&M struggle like
Louisville = 6-6 (Considered horrible by their fans)
NC State = 5-7 (Considered bad by their fans)
Miami = 5-7 (Considered a pass year by their fans)
North Carolina = 4-8 (Considered a pass year by their fans)
Stanford = 4-8 (Considered good by their fans)

I really don't know how our first year will turn out...we have some pretty good players coming in and already have a team that has talent. I would see us anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5

geez.... i hope we are better than that. we will have basically the same team and have just gotten rid of virtually the entire coaching staff which we all think was the problem. if we have nearly the same team and have supposedly improved on the problem of the coaching staff, i am expecting better performance on the field and a better record. i will not predict a record for next season, but i sure hope it is better than what fran was able to produce in 2007....

9 wins because we have such a favorable schedule

Not really. On offense we lose Taylor and Franks at WR, Thomas and Bennett at TE, Alexander at FB, and Elder, Wallace, Yoder, and Clark on the line ... plus Babalola's situation is still up in the air.
On defense we lose Harrington, Bryant, and Smith on the line plus we may lose Michael Bennett. At LB we lose Tupe and Dodge and we lose Carpenter and Hodge in the secondary.
There will be a ton of new faces ... and everyone will have to learn new systems on both sides of the ball. This will not be the same team from 2006 and 2007.
Now, the schedule is a bit kinder as we drop the top two teams out of the north (Missouri and Kansas) and get #3, #4, and #6 this next year .... plus Oklahoma, Tech, and Miami come to College Station.
Still, there are plenty of challenges for the 2008 Aggies ... and given that there are alot more questions than answers at this point ... predicting 10 or so wins, to me, seems a big reach.

Not to bash our players... but Our O'Line regressed in performance... with our WR's... it's not like Picaso is losing his paint brush....
Losing our TE's hurts the most IMO....
On Defense Obiozor & Bennett really came along at the end of the season & our D'Line has learned to play with out Red due to his injuries this year & last year...
At LB, we lose experience, but the Athletic ability & size that A&M gains from the younger guys is far better.

The schedule is what makes me optimistic about 08, but having to replace some guys on both lines does worry me. The OL didn't have the year some had predicted, but it seems like we'll be thin and inexperienced there next year. As for the DL, I think it should keep improving since there are a lot of younger guys who have shown some promise.
I'll say 10-3 w/ a bowl win.

I think 8 wins next year is a victory in itself. If we had 4 cupcakes out of conference, I'd expect more, but New Mexico and Miami aren't easy games...and with our luck, 2 of the North teams we play will finish #1 and #2 in conference... (always seems to work out that way).
We'll beat Baylor -- at least I'm sure of that. :)

"Back to Back" has such a nice ring to it, it concerns me about how we'll refer to it after we win again next year. Three-peat?:undecided:

exactly. not too concerned with what we are losing considering how we played under the former regime.

I agree 8 wins would be a good season when rebuilding both lines and learning a new scheme. Colorado will definitely give us a run for our money I believe. They are improving their play each year so far under Hawkins. Although, the CU loss to Iowa State was certainly curious.
I expect 7-5 but could go to 8-4. I would not be surprised at 6-6 depending on how well our players adapt to the new schemes.

With our four non-con games and Big 12 north games, at worst, we will go 5-2. New Mexico and Miami are both losable, but we should win both. My fiance's father graduated from New Mexico and is a big fan, and said like half of their starters this year were seniors, so they will be a very young team and will struggle. As far as the south teams, we beat Baylor but the other games could go either way, so I say we split and go 2-2. I see us going anywhere from 8-4 to 10-2. 6-6 is possible if we lose all of the games that could be tough, but I don't think there is a game on our schedule that we can't win either.

This would be a decent first season (to me, at least):
Win the "easy" four: Arkansas St., Army, @Iowa St., @Baylor
Win 3 of the 5 "toss ups:" @New Mexico, Miami, @Oklahoma St., Kansas St., Colorado
Steal 1 or the 3 "big ones:" Texas Tech, Oklahoma, @Texas
that would give us an 8-4 first season and a decent enough bowl game.

I think 9 wins which isn't on the poll.

Why do you consider New Mexico a toss up? Honest question.

Aggiefan -
They're kinda a "tweener" but it is our first road game of the season in a year in which we will have alot of new starters and new systems against a team that won 9 games last year. They will be jacked to play us at their place and they have beaten some decent enough teams. They were 5-1 at home last season with their one loss being by 7 to an 11-2 BYU squad plus they beat Arizona on the road last year.
With all of that in mind, and given our circumstances ... they seem, to me, to be more akin to Oklahoma St than Arkansas St. ... so I put them in that "toss up" category.
Now, I will admit, I don't know anything about who they lose and who they return ... I'm just looking at last years record and our question marks.

This is a weird poll, but I'm going 7-6 without too much dissappointments by fans. We have to keep expectations optimistic, but with moderation.

Is that possible for A&M fans?
