If anyone wants to know what defense A&M will run next year.... Simply follow the recruiting story that is KLM....

Lewis-Moore indicated that he’s still solidly committed to the Aggies and is looking forward to the trip to hang out with the team and other commitments in his recruiting class, but he does have some questions that he’d like answered before he leaves College Station.

“I just need to make sure that they will be running the base 4-3 defense,” Lewis-Moore said. “I feel that with my speed and quickness, I’m a perfect fit as an end in the 4-3. I don’t think I fit the 3-4. To be on the line, you have to be bigger, or if you are a pass rusher you stand-up as a linebacker. I’d like to have my hand on the ground.”

While anything is possible.... if KLM stays with A&M, well be running the 4-3.... if you see him decommit soon after his visit, we'll be running the 3-4....

But most reports around the issue hint 4-3.... but ya never know until they hit the field...

i dont see him going even if we run a 3-4.... its all about where we put him in either defense.

I'll be happy with a 3-4 or 4-3. Just as long as we abandon that 4-2-5 crap...

I completely agree. 4-2-5 should not be a base defense.

Does anyone run a 3-4 in college anymore?

Sort of... more so the 3-3-5... but yeah some teams do... Not many though....

But it is making a come back in the NFL....

If I am not mistaken

It just seems to me that the 3-4 would not work well in pass happy offenses of college football.

My concern w/ a 3-4 would be controlling the line of scrimmage against the zone read. Seems like it could lead to some huge seams.

Just for arguments sake, b/c i think we'll be running a 4-3, but the 3-4 if run properly can be effective against a pass happy offense. And by properly i mean coached and executed by the players properly, but you have to have some speedy guys as OLB's that can cover TE's and slot receivers, and then your corners and safeties better damn sure know what they are doing and who they're covering on each play.

I'm actually a fan of the 3-4, I think there is no way better to confuse the ever living hell out of an opposing QB than to have 4 guys moving around, switching places, making checks, yelling crap, all right around the line of scrimmage while the QB is trying to read the defense and figure out just who is gonna be where, and who's coming at him from what angle. I think if you add all that to the confusion that the 12th man can cause a QB, you could have hell on earth for an opposing QB. I think that was one of the problems(one of many) but that our LB's were standing flat footed all most every time the ball was snapped. And that makes it even more harder to react to a play IMO

I think the key to controlling the line is having the players to do it. If you threw those wrecking crew defenses of the early 90's on the field against the zone read, I can't help but believe they would wreak havoc. I think talent can only go so far, and sooner or later your defense has to just embody that attitude that they are gonna go out on the field and they are walking off and if you are the offense you're gonna either be crawling or carried off the field. We just need somebody to put that nasty attitude back in our defense.

Now with all that said, from everything i've read, it seems like we're gonna be running a 4-3 which can be effective as anything and i'm all for it, especially if it helps us bring back the CREW.

Come on Loftin, it was innovative!! (sarcastic) haha.

I agree, I was not too confident in the 425 either.

The 3-4 is my favorite defense when it's run properly. If you have depth at LB, those are the more versatile and unpredictable defenders who give the OL a hard time with their blocking assignments.

Personally, I think we are deeper in the defensive line and should probably start with a 4-3. If Sherman recruits fast LBs (as he implied in that interview), we might move to a 3-4 later on.
