If that happens they would meet him at the airport....put his ass on a stake... and roast him like a pig.

So one of the highest paid coaches in college football will be at SMU!

He hasn't left Hawaii yet. He is torn b/c of the outpouring of support that the entire state of Hawaii is giving him to help him stay.

Looks like it's going to be announced today:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3184911
5 years, $2 million per year is the expected amount. Boosters look like they'll fund it.
My question is, why would the boosters pay for it. Do they get any type of compensation for this? Is it tax-deductible? This is one thing I was curious about big-money donors -- why? General contributions are deductible, but what about specific ones to pay salaries?

If he can bring back that program... it will be money well spent & the money to them is probably like chump change to us....
But if SMU fights it's way back, it makes you wonder if they can find a way back into a BCS conference in 4 to 5 years from now.
KCAggie
01-07-2008, 01:54 PM
No, because it hasan't happened to TCU yet, and they would be first.
Pumchavas28
01-07-2008, 01:57 PM
WHY??? If Jones can get SMU to a 12-0 season & win a BCS Bowl before TCU, why should the Big XII or any conference for that matter wait on TCU???
KCAggie
01-07-2008, 02:00 PM
But TCU had some 1 lost seasons and did not get into any BCS conferences. If that didn't get them in, then SMU probably wouldn't get in either. No undefeated non BCS team has gotten into a bcs conference, so I wouldn't expect it to happen to an undefeated SMU team anytime soon.

It has happened.... i am pretty damn surprised myself.
Who would have thought smu would make a bigger splash than we did with our hire.

Lets not forget Hawaii came very close to losing to San Jose State....
I am sorry but c'mon.... really? A bigger splash???
Aren't we the same fan base pyssed about the Army game & Fresno State? San Jose State is far worst than SJSU & FSU....

I can't believe that he went to SMU. Sure, its for a lot of $$$, but living in Dallas coaching at best, the 6th or 7th best team in the state, is better than living and coaching in Hawaii??

the only buzz sherman got was for us not looking at a black coach.... thats pretty telling. Now I think he will turn out to be a better coach than june jones but there is already a much bigger splash from this hire by the national media.

When the season starts.. no one will care... I don't think it's that big of a deal... as mentioned before... he is going to the 6th or 7th best team in the state... Also giving him $$$$ comparable to what A&M gave Sherman puts more pressure on him than the pressure A&M has on Sherman....
I think by Week 2, no one will even remember this....

Lets not forget that SMU was the 1st to fire their coach & last to pick one up... (well unless you count Hawaii now)...
That says alot right there.....

he (sherman) may not be the "big splash" hire that we all wanted...but isn't he achieving the same outcome (by maintaining our signing class & adding a few names)?
