2008-present: Texas A&M (head football strength coach)
2004-07: Nebraska (head strength coach)
2002-03: Pittsburgh (head strength coach)
1989-2001: Ohio State (head strength coach)
1986-88: Nebraska (asst. strength coach)
1982-85: Nebraska (student asst. strength coach)
The biggest sign of a good strength/conditioning coach is the players/talent he helps produce...this was the most telling part of the article:
He was hired as the head strength coach at Ohio State University prior to the 1989 season and stayed in that capacity through 2001. Working with the likes of Eddie George, Orlando Pace, Joey Galloway, Dan Wilkinson, David Boston, Andy Katzenmoyer, Shawn Springs, Robert Smith and Mike Vrabel, the Buckeye players earned 21 All-America citations while also bringing home honors such as the Biletnikoff, Butkus, Lombardi, Outland, Thorpe and Heisman Trophies. On his watch, 17 Buckeyes went on to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
Kennedy spent 13 years at Ohio State and one of his biggest fans is current ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit.
"The strength coach position is crucial in this day and time," Herbstreit said. "They get to spend more time with the players than anyone else on the staff. The discipline and dedication needed on the playing field is established in the weight room. Dave is one of the very best and brightest strength coaches in the country."
Also, another reason for Hirbe to renew his love for our Aggies...:gig:

Yeah, could you imagine the TexAgs meltdown if it said:
"led Big Ten in injuries while also setting all-time lows in team bench press and squats"

Wasn't one of Fran's first hires a new strength and conditioning coach? Hope this one is leaps and bounds better. Appears so on paper....

In his defense.... he did make the team stronger... I forgot what the #'s were, but before Fran's staff.. not many of our guys could bench 400+.... now more than 1/2 the team can, if not close to all...
Our problem seemed to be more about perperation & technique.

I agree. I believe we are stronger, but I have had a hard time seeing that translate to the field. It has been difficult for me to get excited about the night of champions because I don't see it carry over to our performance on Saturdays. For example, we have lineman that continue to break lifting records, but then can't control the line of scrimmage. I can only guess that we are weak in our technique.

If I'm remembering correctly, we man-handled Nebraska (which is where this new guy is from)...:spy:

Pretty much.... 1 of 2 things happen... either our coaches didn't coach like they should, or our players thought they would dominate just because they were them.... or a possible 3 option is both...

That's more toward inexperience... their D'Line was torn apart by injuries & also they had to replace all 4 D'Linemen this year... all of their guys were drafted last year.

Yeah, I remember every "Night of Champions" included some type of team record being broken.
We were a strong team under Fran, just not a fast or healthy one. Speed and injury prevention fall under the S&C coach's responsibilities as well.

Looks to be a good hire. We had injuries but no worse than any other program across the country. RC's last years were the worst for injuries...it was almost freaky how many injuries his last few teams had.

If he worked for Nebraska, he probably is a good hire. They have really strong athletes (despite their recent lack of success).:gig:
