View Full Version : BCS New Years flops

I just wanted to thank the BCS for the thrilling Illinois vs USC and Hawaii vs Georgia matchups.
Hawaii had an argument for why they should be there, they showed afterwards, that soft records and undefeated seasons don't mean anything. Illinois, however, had absolutely no reason for being in the BCS game. Missouri, the team that should've been there, romped Arkansas and left fans wanting more....
So, since we're not getting rid of the BCS, I have some new rules to propose:
1) Don't cap the number of teams from a conference that can make the BCS. We want the best of the best, period. In this case, the Big XII deserved 3 teams... Mizzou gets screwed from #1 to no BCS game overnight.
2) You don't have to win your conference to play in the National Title game. This already isn't a rule, but most people think it is. Georgia showed why they shouldn't have been leapfrogged by everybody (INCLUDING LSU). Yes, usually teams that don't win their conference aren't good enough to play in the national championship, but this was the rare circumstance where a tie-breaker (like Kansas) kept them out of their conference championship game.
USC and Georgia both showed why a playoff was needed. They absolutely dominated their competition.

I have to agree with you.

Agreed. Although I knew those games would end up that way even though Georgia absolutly just blew Hawaii back to where they belong a little more then I anticipated.
It's sicking that Georgia, USC, LSU, and OU are not playing each other this year. It's in my mind the whole time i'm watching.
Look for another possible blowout tonight. I think less of a chance then the prior two bcs game but still a possibility.
I don't understand why the BCS does cap the number of teams per conference.... Is it for parity or to make it fair across the board? Because ultimately it's really not fair if you think about it. If the Big 12 has eight teams who are better then anyone else (or any conference can fit this example) then they need Eight Big 12 teams in the BCS games.

Hawaii sucked it up no doubt...
Illinois was on its way to making it a one score game before fumbling on the one and I believe had 3 turnovers in the redzone. They were overmatched but a couple of bounces go the other way and that game turns out to be pretty tight.
I mean how many times does a passed lateral bounce right up intot he hands of the reciever with absolutely nobody in front of him...craziness.

Either literally happening or the anticipation of a turnover itself caused it. USC's D was absolutely dominating. They beat Illinois like the town bully. I don't think this game ever had a chance even when Illinois actually started to slow down SC for awhile.
And back to Georgia..... Defense won that game too. They showed the stats for how rushed Colt Brennan was and it was crazy. He about 20 sacks, hurries, rushes and other things in there. It's was like, "Howdy, Hawaii, welcome to a real football team" Take away a gimmick offense and what do you have?

Why not just make the 5 BCS games feature 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, 7 vs 8, & 9 vs 10.........
And also no cap on the # of teams from one conference...
But I have to ask... if you don't have to win your conference to be in the National Title... then why would Georgia leap frog Kansas???
Shouldn't the title game be Ohio State vs Kansas if winning your Conference isn't something that should way on it???
Kansas & Ohio State were both 1 loss teams... why would Georgia leap frog both of them or 1 of them????
Oh & I agree... the BCS games have been HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because Georgia was #4 and Kansas was #5 going into the championship week. #1 Mizzou lost, #2 West Virginia lost, leaving #3 Ohio State and #4 Georgia the next two in line.

For that to work... the whole season's method of ranking should be the same... otherwise why have a whole new rule for the final week of the regular season???

Auburn/Clemson wasn't all that great... not until the final minutes of the game...
Tenn/Wisc
Mich/Florida
were both great though....
I'd have to go with Boise State/ECU, Central Michigan/Purdue, BYU/UCLA, & Boston College/Michigan State wasn't that bad...

As it is, the BCS is the best format available that the Rose Bowl will participate in. However, and this is very unlikely due to money involved, it would help if there were no pre-season rankings as was the case many years ago. It might help if the polls were to come out after the fouth week of the college season; voters and computers might be able to better correlate as to who actually deserves to be ranked where although the difference of opinion will always be argumentative as to the Top 10. It might also help to bring the AP voters back into the fold with the other formulations.

Another BCS flop last night. OU got romped (wouldn't have predicted it, but still no good games yet in the BCS).

boring ass game last night. I kept hoping for some miracle OU comeback which never happened. Total Romp even though it went the other way I expected.
Try again tonight!

Last years Bowl season was awesome, this years Bowl Season sucks as a whole....
The folks who run these polls are praying next year is different.... which it wont be....
The season did not produce a team anyone can say is truly deserving of being in the CHampionship, much less 2....
And now the Bowl Season is beyond boring/horrible... even our game was boring if you weren't a fan...
Neither PSU or A&M did anything extravagant... take away 2 fumbles & there are no real highlights in our game.
