Talk about retarded. Okay, so you steal stuff, this show's you're stupid - but don't do it on a team-sanctioned trip before the FIESTA BOWL! Dumbest NCAAFB player of the year?

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls07/news/story?id=3174861

Oklahoma starting defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger will miss the Fiesta Bowl after being sent home from Arizona following an arrest for shoplifting.
Granger, 21, was arrested Saturday in Tempe after he tried to steal a jacket from the Burlington Coat Factory inside Arizona Mills Mall, Tempe police reported.
"Mr. Granger removed an anti-theft device from a jacket and then concealed the jacket in a bag. He exited the store walking past the cash registers without paying for the jacket," Mike Horn, a spokesman for the Tempe Police Department, said in a statement.

You can take the player out of the hood, but not the hood out of the player.

There has to be some sort virulent strain of ass-holia that infects athletes who are high profile.. Anyone have any ideas for a cure?

But of course the first words from Stoops was that Granger was still on the team.

I really don't have too much of a problem with programs working to help get their athletes through troubled times. But when you see all the crap that goes on at OU (stolen gas, guys caught smoking pot, roid ragers nearly killing people) and the only guys ever kicked off the team are the ones that get the program in trouble with the NCAA, it is too much.

When Stoops first got to OU, I thought he was a pretty good man and a damn fine coach. He cleaned house and had some real stand up guys on his roster. Last I saw, OU football was last in the Big 12 academically. Maybe it is the pressure to win that has changed the situation in Norman. Either way, it sure as heck isn't helping to turn out men that are ready for life after football.

Tech's football players are probably helped out by the fact that they attend a community college. Makes the grades come a bit easier.

It looks like I was off on my memory of OU football academic standings.

I find it interesting that the following items seem so out of whack.

How can Texas have the highest APR and the lowest graduation rate?
How can OU have the 3rd highest APR and the 2nd lowest grad rate?

Big 12 Football APR Scores (Released May 2, 2007)
Texas 944
Baylor 940
Oklahoma 936
Nebraska 935
Colorado 934
Missouri 934
Texas Tech 931
Iowa State 930
Kansas State 926
Oklahoma State 924
Texas A&M 922
Kansas 918

Big 12 Football Graduation rates
School FB MBB WBB
Baylor 84 58 86
Colorado 68 55 92
Iowa State 55 17 79
Kansas 56 45 56
Kansas State 73 67 82
Missouri 60 50 85
Nebraska 83 47 100
Oklahoma 44 46 69
Oklahoma State 64 73 100

Just want to make sure i'm reading that chart correctly. It says Big 12 Football grad rates. The sub-headings are FB MBB and WBB. I presume that means Football, Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball?

Are those measurements for ontime grad rates or does it include when guys return to finish up later?

It's not as if OU's academic standards are that great either. They are pretty much on the bottom tier in the Big 12.
