So my buddies at work pulled through for me today in a big way......
I had a major emergency today with my mom and had to go help her but I had to work today so I ran over to work (I live two blocks) and tried to get some guys from the shift before me to work my shift. Nobody could and I didn't have time to call anyone else so I left and called in sick.
Calling in sick is a huge thing. Nobody does it because we can just trade time and you also lose you bonus at the end (around 1,000 dollars) But I didn't have a choice so I called the Chiefs office and officially "called in sick" losing next years bonus.
Although I didn't know on the side...... After I was gone, the guys I asked earlier who couldn't put an all city wide APB on someone who would come and work 24 hours for me on a seconds notice, found someone who came in on time before noon. Then my district chief took the truck all the way down to The Fire Chief's office downtown and recinded my sick time.
They just called me a few minutes ago and told me. Although the initial voice mail was, "Hey asswipe, we got a guy working for you so you didn't lose you sicktime. Hope everything is all right"
It's times like this where I'm glad to be working where I am with the people I'm working with.
PS: My mom should be all right in a few days.
