Correct me if I am wrong but if the football hits the pylon in the receivers hands and he has possession, shouldn't it be a touchdown?
Reason - at my sons game friday night (Iola Fightin' Bulldogs, whose colors just happend to be Maroon & White :gig: ) the play was 4th & goal from the 4 and our QB runs a bootleg to the right with my son in the slot, he hits him at the 2 and my son stretches the ball with a frim grip/possession with the dback about to tackle him, and the ball hits the pylon. We go crazy as he does thinking he scored but the side judge calls him out of bounds at the 1/2 yrd line. His knee did hit the groung till after he hit the pylon. The pylon was knocked down b/c the ball hit it. Should this be a score?

Yes, based on your description above it should have been a touchdown.

Ref probably felt the knee touched first

Well until they get replay for high school games, lots of those calls are gonna go the wrong way. I remember playing in high school and then watching film saturday mornings and wondering what the heck the refs were looking at. From what you say though it definately sounds like a TD.

Most people don't understand what it is like being a referee and have the same opinion you do. It is very similar to "from the outside looking in...".

I have never ref'ed a game and as I've gotten older I've become much more understandable to the confusion that can occur and the numerous things going on at once that they are supposed to be paying attention too. It's got to be difficult at times. I will say there are good refs that make mistakes and then there are bad refs that shouldn't be let back on the field. That's the way it is with anything in life. I wasn't trying to be critical of all refs when I made that statement, I was just stating as a high school kid who thought the outcome of the games on Friday night was life or death, I remember thinking what were they looking at.

Based on the description, it should've been a touchdown. What many people don't know is the goal line also extends beyond the playing field. If the player dives into the end zone, but the ball is in his outside hand and crosses out at the 1, it's still a touchdown if the player is in bounds or goes over the goal line (inside the pylon). The key here is the ball doesn't have to stay "in bounds" for it to count.
