The new Xbox device, while allowing for extensive gaming capability, will be positioned as an entertainment hub that includes gaming and extensive wireless networking capability as well as 1080p playback. There is also talk of it including a dual HD TV tuner and EPG capability and a docking port for an MP3 player.

For Toshiba, the device is critical if it is to be successful in beating Sony and the Blu-ray promoters. Also being discussed is the development of an open standard docking port similar to the 17 pin iPod port. This would allow all manufacturers to use the same port for docking.

My 360 would be sold in a second :wow:

my 360 already does that.... its called media center extender.

sans the docking port atleast but my computer serves the role of a docking port and i have all the media on that device on my home server anyhow.... plus it can run my home automation system.

But not all as one piece. You have to have add ons

Plus if they start using toshibas hardware, it'll work better and quietier also.

true but the only piece i have in my room is the 360.... the server is in a closet.

this also has the advantage of being able to drive multiple devices in the home (where this would be limited to one tv). the way media center is setup i can start a show at any tv in the house and resume it anywhere else in the house (provided you have multiple extenders). right now i only have one but will be adding more over time. also its one big bank of tuners and one huge storage pool as well as one dvr list of recorded shows for the whole house.

i have no doubt this would meet a certain section of the population's needs and would be successful but i think far bigger than most.
