So I'm hearing on a couple of other boards from people I trust that Fran and Byrne both want to get things done and that they've finalized a buyout, which may be announced today or tommorrow

Okay, if the buyout happens, does Fran still finish the season? :undecided:

Fran gets canned. McGee goes old school & is a player-coach. :gig:

That may depend on who we get. If we buy Fran out early, the coach we get may want to finish the season with his team. Especially if it's a assistant coach. If that happens I think the moral thing to do is respect his wishes and finish ours with Fran or an Interim coach.
Would be weird with recruiting but it could happen.

if we had to rely on an interim head coach for the t+1 game or the bowl game....who would it be? Gary Darnell???

It wouldn't even matter. Firing your coach mid season is nothing but a season write off. It's a worse case scenerio move.

Firing Fran mid-season is so unfair to the kids. Best case scenario would be to set up the buy-out now effective end of the season & throw some small incentives in there for him. Extra 50K for beating the sips, etc.

Anybody remember all of the optimism surrounding the team in August? Now a Fran buyout sounds like a good thing.

he was playing for his job and his $2mill salary last game and looked wildly unprepared...what makes you think 50K's gonna fire him up about t+1(i agree with your post by the way)

You beat me to it, I was gonna say the extra $50k would help make up for his website being yanked.

I don't think he was playing for his job last week. I think he & everyone else involved knew that he was already done. Its obvious that Fran likes money, & since his buy-out is going to be considerably less than what he thought it would have to be, an extra 100K or so may force him to at least make an effort. I really don't know what the solution is, & its so frustrating.
Maybe, BB can convince him that if he doesn't make a valiant effort to win this season, that he will blacklist him across all of college football & that not even Buffalo will ever offer him a job. BB does have a lot of power & influence, you know.

i think future schools even considering coach fran will have to take into account that BB has been completely behind fran this whole season....sometimes being his only suppporter

Yes, but the mood & attitude of the AD changes quite frequently once the coach is gone. What is said in public is not the same as what is said when another AD is asking for Byrn'es recommendation of Fran.

It will be interesting what schools actually look at Fran. He went from one of college football's hottest coaches to a bust in just 5 years. His stock is way down.

I can see Fran coaching at a Non-BCS school.... JMO..... Maybe Arkansas State.....:wow: 2008 A&M vs Arkie State..... :wow:

If you are correct, then BB may as well fire Fran now. That was a mailed in coaching performance last Saturday...if he knows he's done, it won't get any better. He's already more interested in looking for a new job than finishing the season off right. He left TCU for Alabama after promisiing to stay until after their bowl game, then left 'Bama in a lurch to come here. He may "love" A&M but he loves numero uno more.

Good! We could schedule them as one of our cupcake games, and have Fran come to visit. I'm sure he'd understand.

You think there is some way Jorvorskie could justify running him over on the sideline? :)

It would be easy for Lane to "step out of bounds" directly into Coach Clipboard, while Coach Clipboard is calculating wind speed and direction for the upcoming punt he is planning.

Someone told me they saw info on the news in Tyler that Dennis was getting bought out today. I don't have a source or link, and I this info was passed through like 3 people to me. I think she misunderstood, but God knows I hope it happens.
