Rumors coming out that "The Ticket" reporting that Frans buy out has been negotiated at $2 mill, i.e. one years salary. Wheels already in motion to get him out. Can someone confirm? Does NU's actions yesterday sort of put the squeeze and necessity for action on our part? Does Fran have a news conference today? time?

Poking fun at raising money for buyout, start another newsletter for more than $1200 fee. Mentioned Tedford and Tuberville, asking why would they leave Cal or Auburn, not a better job.

The corn cobbs aren't the only ones looking for a new coach. They'll be several schools looking. We better get a head start. And what action did NU take yesterday that puts a squeeze on us? The fired their AD, and will probably replace him before they replace the coach.

Saying tamu not a better job than Cal and Auburn, now discussing S. Florida.
Possible job openings, traditional powers
Nebraska, Michigan, Arkansas,.....

Tennessee also, Georgia (probably safe), mentioned Florida State (can't believe how they look, how can Fl State not have a QB. Traditional powers need to accept that landscape has changed. Arizoan, Clemson, Miss, Washington, Pitt, Syracuse

Colorado State, Memphis, Baylor, SMU (Bennett in trouble here), talking about beat down by OSU in husker nation, worst beating in long time.

All depends on the money, the facilities, etc. I'm sure at least one of the hot new coaching prospects has enough ego to want to come to CS and turn the thing around, with t.u. and OU in our division. Anyone capable of doing that, capable of building a conference winner even with those two programs to contend with, could easilly write their own ticket to stay at A&M for 2X Fran money, or go anywhere else in the nation.

Making fun of Tech getting a delay of game on first play of game and we can't capitalize on them. Neb, fired Solich after going 10-3, he was 58-19 and they fired him. Asking for calls now. Guess they are done talking about tamu. will post if anyone calls about tamu.

From what I understand at NU, them not having an AD will not stop them from making whatever changes that Tom Osborne deems necessary. Many are saying that he has the power and the financial backing to do anything and everything (including cleaning house of all football personnel) and can hire coaches.
The hope is that they will get Bo Pelini to come back in some way. Though many are still wanting Turner Gill to have an involvement.

For the record a few years ago we didn't have an AD and we went shopping for a head coach.;)

Didn't know Osborne was still pulling strings there. Sort of like Royal at t.u.
The only way I'd see Pelinin coming back "in some way" would be as head coach, not D coordinator (again). Turner Gil may be my all-time favorite Husker player.

Seemed like alot of specualtion on the whole segement to me. No concrete sources. We all know Frans in trouble. Mostly they were talking finances about buyout. Using the VIP thing as leverage to negotiate a buyout. Discuss whether you take probation for the program in order to get Fran into a breach of contract situation. Still waiting for calls from listeners

For the record, I'm sure it can be done, but it puts your AD in an akward position.;) (:D )

The real reason they fired Solich is because he knocked up a cheerleader. I heard that over and over this past weekend while up there. He's always had an eye for the girls. In fact his long time wife was a high school cheerleader at the high school (in the Lincoln area) while he was a 25 year old head coach. I'm not certain if she got pregnant while still in school or if they were just caught, but either way, that isn't the kind of blowup that they wanted associated with Lincoln. The fact that he wasn't putting up Osborne win numbers and wasn't a great recruiter made it easier.

Looks like Kim is going to have to move again after all. Wonder if any school of noteriety will pick Fran up?
SMU maybe?

Solich was probably not the long-term answer there, but I bet they'd love to have him instead of Mr. West Coast Offense.

I hardly ever "get in on the rumor stuff" and if you check my posts you can see I don't. But its funny that I read this because 10 minutes ago I had a friend come to our office for some business and he "informed" the same thing, that Fran's buyout is around the $2 mil mark and something will be mentioned either today or upon the return from Nebraska. Also, speculated that BB is going after Tuberville/Tedford. :wow:

i think SMU would be a decent fit for him, or baylor. throw him back into a rivalry with TCU. should be fun to watch.

Caller talking A&M, mentioned money no issue, Norm agrees, aggies will raise money. Talking Cal and facilities, Norm agrees Tedford getting mad about facilities. TAMU has great facilities, talking about bad blood between Tuberville at Auburn. Norm better chance at Tedford than Tuberville.

Talking S. Florida coach, Norm has said he doesn't want to leave, probably wont' leave but it will be a name mentioned.

The reason NU got rid of the AD first is to get a new AD in soon enough to be in on the post season coach derby. They don't want to put the new AD in the position A&M put BB by hiring the new coach first and the AD a few days later. If the AD picks the coach, he can't claim it wasn't his choice later if it doesn't work out.

Damn, this is a bad year to go coach hunting with all the possible schools out there. Things are going to shake up. We'll get stuck with some leftovers since there may be 5-7 schools open more attractive then us.

Baylor? Now that would be funny..he'd have to play us every year! I don't see Fran doing that at all, given he was unwilling at A&M to play TCU. If we hire a Tuberville or Tedford-type coach, no way Fran would want any part of that.

I think if the rumors are true and the buyout is announced, it would be done so that we could throw our name in the hat early and let the candidates think about us.

as I've said earlier...I'm SURE BB has already started his contacts...and probably has a short list prepared.

You forget we have BB as our AD. He has proven that he has the ability to hire quality coaches. I am not worried at all.

On the surface, this appears to be the case. But it is also an opportunity to get someone unexpected who could turn out to be a terrific hire. How about someone like Kevin Sumlin? Now that would stagger people. He damn near saved Slocum's job when he took over the play calling in the middle of 2002 and we had that 30 yards and a lateral, then a cloud of dust offense, as opposed to Dino Babers minus three yards and a shovel pass offense.

About every reply that I was going to make on the subject gave me mental images that I'd rather not have. Sometimes making a joke just isn't worth the psychological damage. :D
