Why were our starters in late in the 4th quarter? You have McGee and Goodson taking a beating in an unwinnable game. This is when you need to admit you lost and let some of our backups get some good playing time.
Also, even though I know this will never happen, but I would really love for Fran to out of the blue put in Johnson at QB in the middle of a close game just to see what would happen. This is nothing personal to McGee. I love the guy, but I want to see what an opponent's DC is going to do if we did this. I also want to see us come out and run some no huddle to keep the defense on their toes. I love when teams to this early in a game.

I was thinking about the starters as well Pville and the only reason I could think of was Fran wanted them to work on our passing game. Moving the ball when we had to score and a majority of the plays are passing. We hadn't really been in that situation and maybe this was a way to work out something...
other than that, I have no explanation.

If it was for passing, JJ needed to be in the game. Nothing against Steven, but JJ is our best bet at a good passing game at this moment.

I should add that Gorrer's knee injury came at a part of the game where he had no business being in there as well.

yeah, but if tech is going to keep throwing and scoring you need your best D out there to keep it respectable. With 2nd stringers, it could be 55-7. I think offense first string and defense first string are different in terms of pulling units...

Yeah, you're probably right. However, backups normally come in and play like their ass is on fire so that they can impress the coaches. At the end of that game, I just felt like both sides of the ball were coasting and watching the clock tick down to 0:00. I would have liked to have seen how some of our young defensive players would have played against an offense like that.

I love Steve, but I would also love to see more of JJ... i've "heard" that he's supposed to be the 2nd coming of that guy that plays for the Titans now. Thoughts? Blown up rumors or any truth to it?

Yes, he is the next VY based on what I've seen so far. Only difference is that he can throw the ball a hell of a lot better than VY ever did.

Physically he has the stature of Young. Mentally I think JJ is smarter.
What little I have seen him play, he moves better than Young, and has a much better arm. But I haven't seen him run to know if he sheds tacklers like Young.

Have you not seen every running play that he has done this year? He effortlessly avoids tackles and makes huge plays.
I want to see Fran use both QB's like Urban Meyer did last year. Keep the oppenent's DC on their toes.

No, I haven't seen every running play he has done this year. All that I have actually SEEN was his cleanup duty against Miami, at the end of the game. He was out there running around on fresh legs against a tired defense, so I wasn't going to make any conclusions based on that.

JJ should have been on after it was 35-7. The game was over. Get him some action. You never know if McGee will get injured.

I don't care how tired MIami was, that's a defense with several first day draft picks on it that he was making look foolish.
The kid can play. He may not know the whole offense, but he has "it". There is an electricity when he plays.
Right now McGee couldn't hit the broadside of a barn 50% of the time...giving JJ a bit of playing time certainly wouldn't hurt.

McGee is a warrior. However I also believe that he is a wounded warrior. There is no disgrace in taking him off of the field and letting JJ get some significant reps.
The offensive staff continually amazes me with their decision making.

I'm not saying he can't play....in fact I'm as excited about him as you are Mez. I'm just saying, he was out there very late in the game with fresh legs against guys who had been running hard for nearly 60 minutes. That's all I have personnally seen of him this year, and FOR ME, that wasn't enough to say "I'm sold!"
He looked great, I can't wait for him to play, but for me that look wasn't enough.

I see your point about the Miami game. However, if MB and JJ were the only one ones on the field, it still was a hell of a play.
To me its more about his arm strength and his ability and willingness to thread the needle on defenders. Also he improvises when the play doesn't work. I currently dont see that.

I've said it a few times before, but I don't want JJ on the field until Fran is gone. We all saw Reggie McNeal and Stephen McGee regress as passers under Fran. Why would we want our next high potential QB to suffer the same fate?

If McGee can't hit a broad side of a barn and is being forced to pass the ball in a bad passing scheme but yet he still leds all A&M Qb's in Comp. %.:headslap:
