View Full Version : Why did yesterday's press conference change things?

Before yesterday's press conference, spirits were high and plenty of people were okay with waiting until the end of the season to decide if Fran was worthy of sticking around another year. Then the PC happens yesterday and everything changes. Just curious as to why you think that happened. Its not like much info came out yesterday that we didn't already know.

I think the PC was for the media. Byrne was upset, but we're still waiting until the end of the season to see what happens to Fran.

The cards are stacked against him...but if the Ags keep winning, then he might have a chance of sticking around...

I don't think people realized the extent of what was in those letters (just speculated) until yesterday (when they were released).

Then you have many of the same people who are loudly proclaiming his termination (all along)...saying (in different words)...SEE, I TOLD YOU SO...and providing actual support...

and you'll always have the CJA's & chicken little's who will hide their head whenever something bad happens...

nothing changes...we'll wait until the end of the season...Fran will make/break himself...

A few things we know for sure...Byrne is pissed. Fran is on the short end of the stick.

Nope. BB is a better administrator than that.

He's been done since Miami.

Two things in my mind:

One was the school coming out & announcing the NCAA violations associated with the newsletter. I think that is the biggest one. Lets not forget, last time we screwed up it cost us a chance at a National Title. People don't take those things too lightly around these parts.

Two, for me, was that yesterday (the PC & the emails/newsletters) convinced me that Byrne knew absolutely nothing about it. And, when you go behind your bosses back & do something that violates regulations, you can expect to be relieved of your duties.

I think it went from newsletter, to something more, to newsletter again and then when it was all aired it turned out to be something more unseemly...overblown? yes in fact, but in action no. There has to be a line drawn and Fran clearly stepped across it.

He burned a ton of good perception about A&M's program, he must now walk the plank...

For the record I'll be at the rest of the home games yelling like a banshee...but we all know what has to happen here.

Never actually knew what a banshee was....

According to Websters....A female spirit in Gaelic folklore whose wailing warns of a death in the family.

I'm kind of convinced that Fran is gone no matter what. Even if we go 13-1 I think our school just doesn't like the guy. Seriously, even if we go 13-1 I don't want him here.

PS: I'm not crazy

If A&M goes 13-1 we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I think a more likely scenario is that they pull out a few wins over tceh, OU, NU, Mizzou, or tu. Say 2 of 5 or at best 3-5.

It would be nice but it would be too little too late. Similar to RC beating OU his last year. It wouldn't change the course of events.

Then we would forever have two groups of people. Those who were glad Fran was gone and those that would defend him saying we were just turning the corner when we fired him.

As Dustin said:

"Two...was that yesterday (the PC & the emails/newsletters) convinced me that Byrne knew absolutely nothing about it. And, when you go behind your bosses back & do something that violates regulations, you can expect to be relieved of your duties."

but regardless....

The debate over the last 4-5 years has been about fran's ability to successfully coach a team to victory. This year, fran's ethics were in question. Questionable ethics will always create more action for dismissal than lack of wins at Texas A&M. For example, we pushed away one of our most revered and successful coaches in the late 1980's. This is historical fact.

Exactly, GSZ....glad someone else realizes. We could win the National Title this year & still have a new coach next year.
