Regardless of what happens to Fran after this year, look for one of the craziest offseasons ever for coaching moves. We should all be praying that Fran wins the Big 12 and does not get fired, b/c I'm not sure we want to battle for the top coaches with the programs likely to be looking for new ones.

I think its pretty safe to say that Carr is out at Michigan. Rumor has it that Les Miles wants that job and would leave L$U for it. Most "experts" are thinking that if Miles goes to Michigan, than Spurrier will leave SC for L$U. Considering that Auburn, Tennessee, and maybe even Nebraska and Notre Dame could be needing new coaches next year, there are is going to be a lot of moving around.

How do you think A&M would fare looking for a new coach if LSU, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Auburn, Nebraska, etc were all looking at the same time? Realistically, how good of a job is A&M compared to those other schools?

I really don't see Michigan going after Lie$ Miles after he blows another chance at an SEC Championship...not to mention a National Title.

Maybe, maybe not, but that is what all the "experts" think is going to happen. Even if he stays at L$U, that means the Michigan job is still open so my point remains the same. Way too many big ass programs looking for coaches is not good for A&M if we are looking for a coach.

Knowing the way that Byrne works, he has already talked to a few coaches and can maybe get a deal done before this all happens.

Hell, Carr may have crapped up the beginning of this season, but if he is out of a job, hiring a coach with a MNC ring couldn't be a bad thing.

I was actually thinking about this on Sunday...

also with all of the lucrative coaching opportunities...it may make some coaches that may not consider leaving...consider it...and once their name is in the hat...they might as well leave...

should be interesting!

Well, not really. Because the whole "carousel' revolves around Mile$ going to Michigan. Because if that doesn't happen then the whole Spurrier to L$U thing doesn't happen. Either way, its all speculation.

Maybe one of the SEC schools, assuming that most of them fire their coaches, decide that Fran is an SEC coach & they hire him.

I'd like coach Spurrier to come to College Station

Lloyd Carr is more likely to retire than be forced out. Once he does we are more likely to see him at ESPN on Saturdays, not on the sideline. Miles is a Michigan alum, so he might be interested in the job.

Nebraska just signed Callahan to an extension two weeks ago. I think he is safe.
ND just signed big boy to an extension. IF he leaves it's to go back to the NFL.

I don't think that the number of big programs looking for head coaches in the off season will be very high.

I can tell you right now that if they don't produce this year... the programs that will be looking for coaches are...

Arkansas
Notre Dame (regardless of new contract or not, it can still happen)
Arizona
Ole Miss
Syracuse
Colorado St.
Auburn
Tennessee
Ga. Tech
Virginia
Iowa
Miss. St.
Wash. St.

Of those teams..... The ones in bold will push hard for a new coach at seasons end if their teams don't produce....

I really think Arkansas and Notre Dame will keep their coaches at least one more year. I agree that if the other schools don't produce, then they are looking.

Pflug, just one thing to add to your original post. You actually have to nearly double your list of schools looking for coaches, I say this because, and all though this isn't all the case, any time a school like Auburn, Mich, Alabama, etc hire a coach he had to have come from somewhere and that means there is now another vacancy at another school thus the nearly doubling of the list. Just my two cents.

true Md...but it's not always a head coach that leaves...

ex: Bo Pelini to Texas A&M...;)

Yep I agree, that is why I stated " although this isn't always (my mistake up above I typed all) the case". I was accounting for the assistants getting the nod. However, Auburn, Mich, Notre Dame, Arkansas, this are the big boys in college you'd think they would go after a known big name head coach.

I say since Byrne probably still has contacts there, we really promote Fran to Nebraska, then that will be one more win we can circle 2 out of every 4 years.

According to Dierdorff (sp?) who was on Rome just a few minutes ago, you are 100% correct. He said that before the season started, Carr was probably going to retire after this year anyway.

He is my first choice, by far. Whatever it costs, it would be worth it to have him in CS.

Spurrier would be badass to come here, but I doubt he would. Can you imagine if you had Mack Brown, Bob Stoops and Steve Spurrier coaching in the same freaking division of the Big 12??

He has the freaking Gamecocks making noise in the SEC. Spurrier is the kind of guy that I think thrives when he is challenged, and we certainly have the money to lure him from South Carolina.
