This is JMO.... let me know if anyone out there feels differently....

And this is nothing against 1 or the other...

But shouldn't it be...

Goodson Compliments Lane....

not

Lane Compliments Goodson....

I know we'd all like it to be 50/50 & that would be the perfect world concept.... but I think it's becoming obvious now.... Loftin is somewhat right in his blind following of Lane....

I mean, when the big guy gets going... A&M does good.... I am not saying run it 70 times a game... but something where Lane is the feature back & everyone else is there to keep the defense honest.....

THoughts?

Tire them out stopping Lane, then make them have to chase Goodson. Lane is our get the bases loaded guy, Goodson is our homerun hitter. Either way you cut it, neither one is as good without the other. Put them both in the backfield every play.

fran seems very determined that have goodson break off big plays. he seems to run him a lot even with several losses in hopes of that 1 or 2 huge plays. seems like he will always feel that lane is just complimenting goodson.

Remember boys that a variety of formations negates the fact that its the same draw play every time. Scheme matters more than logic.

I feel bad for Goodson because he honestly is a home run threat that is having to juke his way out of the backfield.

Lane is the every down back who wears the defense out and keeps moving the chains. When used less often, Goodson actually gets more yards. He's that home run threat that you surprise teams with every 4 plays or so. When Goodson is featured, he's easier to stop. Lane, on the other hand, gets better as the game progresses.

Would Eric Dickerson have been as successful at SMU with out James Craig?

Would Larry Csonka have been as good at Miami with out Jim Kick?

We have a dynamic one two punch in the backfeild and our coach seems to be clueless on how to exploit it. Not to mention both have good hands coming out of the backfield (cough* shuttle pass *cough).

Actually we have a 1-2-3 punch backfield, when counting McGee. He's more effective when he spreads the ball around to Lane & Goodson and mixes in a few keepers off tackle.

But the triple option is easy to defend against when one third of it is wathcing from the sidelines.

goodson would be all we need (save short yardage/goal line) if we had a great O-line.

fact is they are under-performing this year, and Lane can get the yardage in spite of them.

Lane needs to be featured in the beginning of the game to tire the defense and set the tone and at the end of the game to keep wearing the defense down. I do think that Lane should get more rushes than Goodson, but the touches should be about the same with Goodson getting some screen passes to try to break one. I think Goodson should be used more like Reggie Bush is being used right now with the Saints where Duce is getting more carries but Bush gets about the same amount of touches.

I think screen passes to Goodson should be a bigger part of the game plan..... but Lane should be the feature back & I agree with Loftin that the Lane/Goodson rushing ratio should be 4 to 1.... Mike can have touches other ways...

Would be nice to see Mike actually return punts.... I'm kinda getting tired of dropped punts....
