As a child growing up in Midland, Nick Papasan would often pretend he was playing baseball for the Texas A&M University Aggies. Beginning in 2006 he will have to pretend no longer.
The Granbury Pirate shortstop has verbally committed to play for Texas A&M after graduating from Granbury High School.
Papasan will sign the actual letter-of-intent in November.
“That’s always been a lifelong dream for me,” Papasan said. “But we lived in Midland, and they never really recruited out there. “I come down here and it’s the first call I get.”
The Aggies do, however, recruit the Metroplex heavily. So they couldn’t help but notice Papasan and his Class 5A-leading .564 batting average.
Papasan also led 5A players in base hits with 53 and tied for the lead in runs scored with 39. He tied for third in doubles with 11 and home runs with seven, and was tied for eighth in RBIs with 32.
