Fire Fran

Looks like we have a new sign at the tailgate. How much do those giant balloons that fly around cost?

while I agree with the sentiment...is that really the place to display your displeasure?
(I'm not sure I even know the answer to that...just a question for discussion)...

I mean, shouldn't we support the team as a whole on gameday (especially in front of opposing fans)?

How would you feel if you saw opposing fans doing the same @ an A&M game (ex: Tceh, tu, ou)???
I would probably laugh & think its funny, but then think of what an advantage our team already had because the fans weren't behind the team...

I KNOW you're behind the team...but by setting up that display, it may appear otherwise.

Firing Fran will be a total positive for our team. tu, OU and TTU love him and want him to stay...

Having a sign say "Support the Team - Fire Fran" could appear that I am not behind the team?

The best way to support the team right now is to help spread the team sentiment that Fran has to go.....change is necessary.

If I saw someone else with that sign, in our situation, I would probably think of them as more intelligent than someone who said to support the team and the coaching staff (in this situation)

this is just not true.

just saying there is a difference in what we say among ourselves & what we "proudly proclaim" on a gameday atmosphere...

Kind of like the saying (in a family) "Don't air your dirty laundry".

The players have enough to deal with...especially if they're seeing/feeling the same things we are...I don't see how this would help them win games...(which is what we all want, right?)

As much as I vent on this site and to my buddies, I wouldn't fly any "fire fran" banners over Kyle Field behind airplanes.

I wouldn't actually hang a sign like this up (unless it was obvious that the fan base was becoming complacent again and it looked like the pressure was off andhe was going to be able to stick around)

not shocking...

so just a scenario (while I agree a very unlikely one)...
we're undefeated for the rest of the season...the big12 ship comes down between us & tu on t+1...fans are becoming "complacent again" and the pressure is beginning to come off Fran again...

you hang the sign then?

CopeIt

yes, the sign would be hanging

It doesn't matter if the guy gets lucky or if the team pulls through the bad coaching and is able to win all of those games - the man has still proven over and over that he doesn't have a clue what he is doing out there. He is excellent at spinning and getting people to believe that the fault lies elsewhere. No matter what happens for the rest of the season, he needs to be run out of town.

agreed...

but ive been hearing rumors of a "blackout" kyle this week but its always been very hush hush so we will see if anything comes of it. something like that could show the ath dept staff/administration alot. (assuming half of the stadium showed up in black)

either way i see attendance down quite a bit for baylor now...

whitelightnin_23
09-22-2007, 04:53 PM
yes, it would send a clear message...to our future (replacement) coach...the current players...and fans across this country...

how would it be interpreted??? I'm pretty sure we (as Aggie nation) would understand it in its proper context...but I doubt the rest of the country would...

who knows...not a risk I would be willing to take. I'm pretty sure "big money" & BB saw the same game we did...

CopeIt
09-22-2007, 04:53 PM
So if he somehow wins out then you would still want him as the coach next year?

That tells me all I need to know about you.....

CopeIt
09-22-2007, 04:54 PM
I think the blackout is a horrible idea.....it shouldn't get that public. We would be all over the television and things would get skewed.....nothing good can come from it (except fran being gone).

whitelightnin_23
09-22-2007, 04:57 PM
I'm not real sure...but I KNOW I wouldn't put up a huge sign & openly campaign against him AND the team...(again a point we can argue all day about...)

IF this did happen (again speaking in hypotheticals)...he would have to do a HELL of a coaching job (instead of coaching LIKE hell) to win @ Norman...@ Nebraska...@ ttu...@Missouri...and beat tu.

He would have to show a significant improvement...if history is any judge...this won't happen...but (AGAIN...speaking in hypotheticals) IF it did...my opinion (as of right now) may change.

It would look pretty silly for us to fire a coach after a 1 loss season & a bcs bowl berth...

CopeIt
09-22-2007, 04:58 PM
A sign saying "support the team" is in no way campaigning against the team....it is campaigning for them.

It may look silly but it is the only way to improve aggie football. The man is inconsistent and will never get us to a Big 12 Championship. More importantly, he is not improving the aggie players and increasing their chances of getting to the next level. He is taking away opportunities.....

as far as the "campaigning against the team" remark...we'll just have to agree to disagree...

If Fran and the team wins out and we go 11-1, then yes, I want him back next year (I can't see how anybody wouldn't). For one, he led us to a Big XII Championship and a Fiesta Bowl berth. Two, he improved (again) over last year and recruiting would be a piece of cake this year...

Why fire a coach after that? Obviously, if he can help the team recover from a debacle like Thursday, he must have a shred of decent coaching in him, right?

As much as it feels that way, a lot of pro teams don't care much about college stats. A lot has to do with how you do at the combine and in individual work outs, pro days. Fran doesn't slow people down or make them not perform well in these situations.

CopeIt
09-22-2007, 05:33 PM
and this is exactly why the sign will exist.....

if that happens sure i will be for him staying here but thats about as likely as me winning the lottery.

the only way fran stays here imo is to win the big12 this year and thats about as likely as winning the lottery (oklahoma alone will keep us from that)

and this is the reason Texas A&M won't be able to pull in the next big named coach because fans run coaches out who go 11-1.... You asked if they went 11-1 if I'd be okay with Fran coming back next year. In my opinion, you're a complete fool if you run a coach out who just went 11-1 after a 9-3 year (with this schedule)

CopeIt
09-22-2007, 05:49 PM
You are a fool if you allow a coach to keep embarrassing a program over and over while proving that he knows nothing about football at the upper level. The wins would happen in spite of fran...not due to him.

The hypothetical outcome does not even have a .00000000000000000001% chance of happening so there isn't even any use in arguing about it.

BAGGIO
09-22-2007, 05:49 PM
I dont know how I would feel about that. I see 9-3 as very possible, 10-2 outside chance. I think I want 10 wins to even consider him. Nebraska sucks this year. I think we will drop the tt game and ofcourse the OU game(if we beat ou i want a contract extension.

If anyone knows any of the "big-money" Ags (like the caliber of donors that got us into this situatation), ask them for their thoughts. Let's just say that no student or fan protest is necessary. Winning out is fran's only option and he himself appears not to be very confident of that happening.

This is all that I will say on the matter............
