I started wondering today....what must Fran be thinking right now. I know some of us will put funny little quips, but I would like to see some thought as well....I mean, could it be any of the following?

1. He truly thinks that he made the perfect calls (or his staff did), and it is just that his players did not execute them correctly and/or Miami was just too good. Therefore, he has no idea why everyone is so pissed at him.

2. He has the old hindsight is 20/20 thing going, and now really regrets that he did not at least try the Lane tactic the first half. But that is his mistake to make, and we as fans will accept it because he is the coach, and he has spoken.

3. He does not care because it was just a game, and in his mind the national spotlight and connotations were just coincidental, he really on cares about the Big 12. Everyone will be all warm and fuzzy again as long as he makes it all good there.

Something else? A combination of some or any? Thoughts?

and of course, my obligatory.......

4. He doesn't care what anyone thinks. He actually enjoys the fact that everyone is so mad at him. His smug demeanor will not change all year.

Well, according to him, "last night was just an exhibition game," so it didn't matter.

"we've got to move on...there's no time to look in the past. We'll learn from our mistakes & correct them going forward. We have to get ready for Big 12 play."

or something like that...

Yeah, he'll say something to that effect.

BULLCRAP!!! Everyone in the team (players & staff) had the Miami game circled since spring practice...

I swear to you all that I did not read coach fran.com before posting that...but here it is...(just checked it):

In terms of the game, the best thing to do for now is stick to a few simple thoughts. We have no excuses, and talk does nothing to change the outcome. I'll have more to say Sunday after we have a chance to go through the evaluation process on video and get a thorough report from every position coach.

We had no indication before the game that we were anything other than ready for this opportunity. But things went sour immediately with a three-and-out. Miami then put together an impressive drive on which they converted four straight third downs and a fourth down near midfield, used 18 plays and 8 minutes. We certainly didn't think it at the time, but that start set a tone for the game.

Momentum shifted badly when we missed a 50-yard field goal attempt that would have made it 7-3. Instead, they came back with a 51-yard pass completion. Everything came apart in the last six or seven minutes of the half in uncharacteristic ways – an interception and two fumbles that gave them 10 quick points going into halftime. When you do that against a good team, you expect to pay. And Miami was a very good team tonight, the best that I've seen them after watching their other games on video.

I had hopes we could erase the deficit the way we’ve seen other teams make comebacks, but it wasn’t to be. Miami played well in every phase of their game, and we did not. Every coach tries to avoid saying anything that takes away from what the opponent achieved, and I want to give them credit by saying that the best team tonight won this game.

It’s disappointing how we played, and it hurts. It should hurt. If anyone on our team isn't hurting, it doesn't mean enough. Now, we all face a challenge. As I told the team, we get to see what we’re made of. The players have 48 hours away from football, and I told them to use it well and then come Sunday ready for some hard work.

We will find out what we’re made of by the ways that we respond to this adversity. This is not what we anticipated or expected, and it will test us to dig deep and get ready for what lies ahead. The exhibition season is over, and we have a Big 12 opponent coming to town next week to start the conference season.

I believe in these players, our coaches, and us as a team. I don’t believe I’m wrong in my belief.

We’ll see.

Coach Fran

I would have their asses in the lockerroom/classroom going over film, or have them sweating their asses off on the field executing every play against a brick wall...

I don't know what he is thinking, but I honestly believe this guy doesn't have a clue. For some mysterious reason he forgot how to coach between alabama and texas. I know this will infurate some of the fran supporters still left, but seriously, over the last 5 years, it has been bone headed play after bone headed play, FG instead of 2 pts conversion, desperately need 1 yd and calling a play with your big back watching from the sideline, calling 3 yd outs when you need 15 yds to convert a 3rd down, the list goes on. When I look at the whole body of work, I can't help but think this guy has zero clue. He had to be TALKED into going for it on 4th down a few years back by the players pleading if not that would have been two losses to Baylor. Seriously, I think the guy goes to his job and tries to come up with something, but really is clueless on how to attack the varying defenses he encounters. I do think there is an air of arrongance about him, it permeates through the screen on the TV, and he makes the problems worse becase HE IS the offense coordinator, if you really think Koening has anything to do with play calling, I've got some oceanside property here in WV that I'd love to sell you.

More power to you Baggio, I respect your position. I have zero, hell I'd classify it as negative if I could, confidence in Fran. I'm trying desperately to find something in the last 5 yrs that I could latch on to as a glimmer of hope, but I can't find a thing. Truthfully, I have more confidence in Darnell than I do in Fran and that says volumes.

The NCAA has time limits on how much you can practice and watch film with players. I'm sure we go to the limit every week, and this is a long week.

Nice post, MarylandAG.

Coach Clipboard is too busy working on probability studies and risk assessments to be emotionally present and involved in the game with his players.

Holy chit! the risk assessement thing has me ROTFLMAO!!!! Since I work for FDA we do risk assessments all the time, its the new "in" thing. Sometimes, the risk assessors are assessing the risk of something that has never happened!!! YES I"M SERIOUS! talking about a total waste of F'ing time! drives me up the wall, so when I saw it in reference to the coach, I'm spewing coke all over the screen!!!! Ha ha ha:laugh:

Seiously, Maryland, what else could he be doing staring at the damn clipboard all the time? I swear Goodson is going to break one dow the sidelines for 90 yards one day, and while the stadium and sidelines are going nuts, Fran will be there with his face in that damn clipboard, looking at air temp, wind velocity, sun position data to help Sym line up for the POA.

fine. I'd send the tape home with the players & ask for a written report on why we sucked so bad...what YOU did wrong...and then read it to the rest of the team.
