View Full Version : The real reason J-Train didn't get the ball more....

Does anyone else remember this same scenario (albeit less embarrassing) being played out before? By that I mean Fran not giving Lane the ball when it is the obvious thing to do. What about Fran NEVER doing the thing that is obvious? It is quite common.
I believe Fran's gameplan never included Lane........ Why? Because Fran is constantly out thinking himself. Well they know the only way that we can win is by pounding Lane, so that is precisely what I WON'T do.....heheheheh, I am so smart. Watch me completely confuse their coaches and just when they think that I will have to use Lane, I will run the option. Then I will run that 8 times in a row because after the 4th time, they couldn't possibly think that I would run it again. I am just going to do the exact opposite of what is expected. This is going to be so badass!!! I will be considered the most brilliant coach in all of college football!
I am pretty sure that is a pretty good insight into the man's mind. How long did he play football for again?

I agree with you that Fran may actually be out thinking himself in developing his game plan. Should develop a solid plan and stick to it. Stop trying to keep everyone guessing. I guarantee we all know what we are going to see when we play tech, ou, bu, etc.

An Italian that once coached the Packers never really worried about being fancy with his play calling. It was all about the proper execution of the play that mattered back then, but that was another time and football was not completely a thinking man's game.122

There is ABSOLUTELY no doubt in my mind that him outsmarting himself is his biggest flaw. Sans t.u., every game we circle on the calendar or have extra time to prepare for we suck it up.
This is something that is very widely known within certain cirles around the Bright Complex & Netum Steed!

I tend to agree that the game plan was to use other weapons as Fran thought that Miami thought we'd use Lane.
But the problem with playing AWAY from your strengths is you don't develop an identity as a offensive (or defensive) unit. Every week it's something different.
Plain and simple, our game plans shoud FEATURE our strengths, whether you think the other team is expecting that or not.
If they stop us inside with Lane (why the f**k use Goodson inside so much????????????), then go outside with the option. Make then respect our strengths, instead of making it easy for them by taking our strengths of the field.
That was a "give up" offensive plan".

But you can't go outside against a a defense that fast.....pounding up the middle to wear them out should have been the plan

Yeah the best way to attack a fast defense is to overpower them. You can even do a straight run at the tackle and it be effective. You have to get to the line of scrimmage as fast as possible isntead of running sideways and allowing there to be 3-4 players in front of the runner.

Power running /= stutter steps and dancing in the backfield. Get the ball with some steam and continue to increase the power through the line instead of the delays and other crap
I love the J-Train but they had 8 men in the box, bumped and run our WR's and dared us to throw the ball. He had no room to run even if he had got the ball, it seemed they all out run blitzed as soon as J-Train was in the game.

Goodson couldn't outrun them. I'd rather take my chances with J-Train trying to break tackles and create something out of nothing (which he has made a career of doing).
Loftin that sounds great but I'm sorry the train would have had a tough time with the athletes Miami had and defensive package they were running. They tried to give him the ball but when when the ball was hiked they were already in the backfield. The J-Train is awesome but it is what it is, hike and they were in the backfield. They had absolutely no respect for our passing game. Not blaming any A&M players just watching the way Miami players were coached.

When you run delays and draws it gives a defense time to get in the backfield. The truth is lane is a downhill runner give him the ball with him moving forward.

Okay then, so there goes the rest of our season. According to this, all a team has to do is put 8 men in the box, bump and run our WR's and dare us to throw the ball.
So.......now what?
