Check out the program called "my movies"...it is free (also can be used by people not wanting to watch on media center but that offers the most)

It catalogs, adds cover artwork, actor info, genre, ratings, etc etc etc automatically and then adds a button on your media center so that you can watch your movies through there without converting to an mpeg. I am using it to stream my computer movies to my projector room using the xbox 360. Works like a charm and is something that I was previously unable to do.

I am dead tired so I hope I explained this in a manner that is at least semi-understandable.

nevermind on the whole streaming dvd's to the xbox 360.......it won't allow them to be played. I figured out another workaround for it to work on the computer but not on the extender. I will update if I find a solution. However, it works amazing when viewing on the computer.

it will stream mpeg files just fine.... i use it to stream my recorded hdtv movies.

and as good as it is the next major version will be the one to get. it will be the native mcxml version.

if you are looking to rip your dvd's to something smaller that will play over the 360 look at DVD-WMV. it will take the dvd and make a wmv file 1/4 the size with the 5.1 audio track.

I am trying to get around converting my collection over to wmv or mpeg......I simply don't want to take the manhours to do that. I have found transcoder 360 which works just fine and basically transcodes on the fly and then dumps the files after watching. I just want to keep the DVD's in the original audio/video folders and regular size .vob files.
