It's the humidity. He is probably close to puking from getting hit too much. He's tough but he's a puker. :spy:

Would any of ya'll look comfortable with the lack of pass protection he is getting.....
Not to mention guys are dropping passes left & right on him....
What else can he do? Shankle, Taylor both dropped passes.... Tellus & Goodson are his best WR's right now.....

Tellus should do a commercial for Oreck vaccumms. It makes me wonder if maybe Johnson should come in just to give McGee a rest. It's when you get wore out like this that you are succeptable to injury.

On those 2 or 3 plays where it was a QB dive or QB draw... I wish JJ had been in just to give McGee a quick breather....

Yeah, Tellus and Goodson are having a stellar game receiving so far.
I think the O line is going to pick it up next half. That'll get Steven in a better rhythm.

McGee definitely needs better protection. With this temperature and humidity I think it is hard to condition for that. Let's see if our second half tendencies to come out stronger happen today.

The O'Line's pass protection has been horrible.....

That was Arkieth's man..... Arkieth played that horribly....
ZERO EXECUTION in the 2nd half... NONE!!!!!

Dude, McGee had all day to throw tons of times & there were guys running wide open down field....he is just scared to pull the trigger.
And on that big play to tie it in regulation, Arkeith was right there & made a play on the ball, the dude just caught it. But either way, there was no way he should have been able to run free for that long.

I want to watch the game one more time just to look at the pass protection. It looked pretty good but I want to see it again. Something had McGee doing the happy dance.

When he had the most time in the world was when he threw the ball away in the first overtime and if he looked left one more time Tellus had broke free.

a field goal right? I'm getting the possessions mixed up but I'm pretty sure that was the first 3rd down in the first ot.

Again, I don't know what game y'all were watching, but there were lots of times when he had all day to throw. Yeah, he got pressured, but thats only because he wouldn't throw the ball.

I wish I had video editing software so I could pull these plays that dustin is referencing out to see how some of you explain them.

Agreed, and he didn't make the downfield throw...other times he got pressured and got happy feet and ran...
all in all...no matter what we all think or say.. he likes to run first and pass into the flat second...downfield passing is a DISTANT third option...

I just watched the whole game again...He was getting 2 seconds plus on most pass plays. He did take a couple of shots but the biggest were on the flee flicker and option pass.
He just had an off day passing. On further review of the game there were some downfield routes...not sure why throws weren't made downfield.
I figure he's earned the right to have an off day given what he has accomplished....I still would have sat him down in the third quarter just to calm him down.

Gee....where have I heard that before? :undecided:
His overall effort was admirable, as usual. I don't think anyone is trying to take that away from him by suggesting that some time to regroup might not have been a bad thing.
We can hope that his reluctance to go down-field will soon be overcome and it wouldn't surprise me if he's being even harder on himself than anyone else. We can only hope the next game helps his confidence in letting go of the ball a bit more and getting past what appears as over analysis or the what-ifs of each pass.

Yeah we had to settle for a FG due to down & distance... 1 more second & Tellus is all alone in the middle of THE ZONE....

My comment is not an endorsement of even considering McGee not being the starter but rather to let the cobwebs clear a bit. When a RB drops a ball or a d lineman jumps offside he's generally pulled off for a play...why not the QB?
I almost feel like the third quarter was wasted for him given whatever was going on with the play calling (be it injury or change of strategy).

They were able to run block, but not pass protect.... or at least not long enough for McGee to find someone...

Who was suggesting pulling him as starter? I agree with you completely.
It was the third quarter flubs and frustration that brought up the whole subject during the game thread. A few reps with J.J. would have made a great deal of sense, especially if McGee had a hangover.
What's going to happen if, God forbid, he ever does get hurt and needs to take some time to recover? Having a backup with some real playing time can't be a bad thing.

Good point Duff(still need to change the Av), but if he puts him in for PT now, it will give the DMN and the Am Statesman license to take the spotlight off tu's weaknesses and hide them behind the full fledged QB controversy that they would inevitably invent for us!

How long do you expect them to pass protect for? A good QB should be able to get rid of the ball to an open receiver within a few seconds. Even the best O-lines are going to break down in a pass protection after 4 seconds or more.

I saw some speculation elsewhere that maybe McGee got his bell rung early in the game when he took the illegal shot to the head that FSU got flagged for. He certainly looked alot like he did last year against tceh when he got a concussion early in the game and ended up making slow reads and missing open receivers downfield despite adequate time to find them.
Burnet or anybody in the know, any thoughts on whether he got knocked silly early on?

Alright Pfleug...is it the O Line or the QB?

7 on 7 rules say the ball has to be out of the qb's hands in under 4 seconds. If they really did all that work this summer then he should be ready get rid of the ball quickly.

There is a difference in talent, and when you have a pass rush but I would agree that it should have helped. There are so many reasons why our passing game is no there that I cannot begin to try to analyze. I will just wait and see what happens this season... I am a paitent man.

I'd like Fran to let JJ play and show the world that a RFR who has only played QB for 1 season in high school can't cure our passing problems but if people need to see that because they are to dumb to see that we have the right guy at QB and thats McGee, then by God Fran play JJ so we can move on. We need better WR's or they need to step up and make plays. Also the Oline needs to gel and get their passing blocking together.

Who cares what they think? If Stephen is taking too many shots or is having trouble reading and needs some time to recoup, shouldn't his health and the overall good of the team be what matters? I don't see giving him a break in such a physically demanding contest as such a big deal in those situations, especially in non-conference play. Is Stephen's well-being and the whole season worth sacrificing for a few minutes play this early in the season? I don't think so.

Burnet, I'm not saying that we need a new QB. I know that Steve is a winner & tremendous talent, &, more importantly, an unbelievable leader. That being said, you can't sit here & tell me that the amazing passing talent he showed in high school has transferred over to the college game.
Unless, you are just really looking for people to blame, you can't blame the O-line. Watch the game again, if you think you can. He had time to throw.
Outside of the drops, which haven't been on deep balls, you can't blame the WRs. I saw guys all last year & last week running in man on man coverage 20-30 yards downfield without any safety help.
So that really narrows down the list of people to blame. I'll tell you that I think that the coaches have him so f**ked up in the head about making a mistake that he is scared to throw the ball. I don't blame Steve for this, by any means, but I also don't care who is at fault. It just needs to get fixed....NOW, or else we will have a rough season. Which would mean that we will have a new head coach in Steve's senior year. Which may be exactly what he needs to show off his arm to NFL scouts. Hmmm. :wow:
