i need some help on a DSL modem situation. i have DSL internet service through sbc/at&t and have a 2wire modem. the modem quit working yesterday and i called at&t about it and they said it was deffective and they only cover it for 13 months and will not send a replacement. if i want a new one from them, it will cost $80.

my question is, do i have to buy a new one from at&t or can i buy any dsl modem and have it work with the dsl service that i have? i know some of you guys will know the answer, any advice or help is appreciated.

thanks.

it depends... you should be able to go to circuitcity/best buy and tell them you need a dsl modem that works with at&t. most should work but there are some that wont.

I would tell my dsl provider that they need to fix it or I'll get cable internet. I don't think they'd have much of a problem fixing it if they thought you would leave.

I traded my 2wire modem to a friend that never could get it to work with his cable modem. I'll see if I he still has it and if I can get it back from him.
