View Full Version : Risk of Injury

Would you risk having Goodson return punts or kicks?
Would the possibility of big plays out weigh the possibility of injury to 1/2 the rushing attack?
Obviously he wants to do it & he's made it known to Fran & co... what do ya'll think... Is it worth the risk... Fran (so far) doesn't think so....

i would rather he didn't do either, but if he is passionate about doing it, then i'm ok with it.
with kerry franks back there on kick returns, i would just assume not see goodson there.
but he could get hurt playing wr or rb also, so his big play capability might be worth it if he is performing great doing it. guess we'll have to listen and see how he does in practice. apparently he hasn't done much of either in HS.

Fran wasn't the one that kept Mike from returning punts & kicks earlier....Mike was. He said he didn't have any interest in doing it. Now, however, he is more open to the idea & said he will give it a shot in practice this week.
I say, if he wants to do it, & he is good at it, then put his ass out there. Tons of big play guys have returned kicks during their college days. Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Reggie Bush, Deshawn Jackson...just off the top of my head. And, if God forbid, he does get hurt, its not like the cupboard is bare behind him.

if he is the best player for the particular job, put his a$$ back there and let him return some kicks. i dont care if it is punts or kickoffs. but if he is going out there worrying about getting injured, he will. if he goes out there and does what he does, will he get hurt? maybe. he and the coaches have to look at risk vs. reward in doing this. the risk is potential injuries. he has the same risk every other time he touches the ball. the reward is he gets the ball in his hands more times/game. anytime he gets the ball in his hands, exciting things can happen.

No one is doubting whether he would be good at it! This goes back to reading comprehension. The question was is it worth risking Mike getting hurt to have him return kicks & punts.

b/c that is the most obvious statement that could be made about Goodson.
I think we should give the ball to Lane on 3rd and short b/c he is big and hard to tackle.

But it's not about him worrying... it's about the coaches/fans.... not that the fans have a say in it....

yes i understand the question. most things on this board are obvious statements! good grief what is your problem. seriously go get laid and smile. the worlds not gonna end cause someone made a simple statement:)
i gave my opinion. since when did you become the thread nazi? i think he should do it he'd be great at it- doubt he'd get injured.

Wife's at work. Doubt Pflugerville ISD would appreciate that too much, so it will have to wait until tonight.

A lot of great players return kicks on their respective teams. I don't know why we should be any different. I would think you want your best players on the field at all times.

That is what Fran has said all along, but again, if the kid doesn't see himself as a kick or punt returner its kind of hard to turn him into one.

Dustin's right, Goodson isn't willing to return kicks. It's a shame too, because he'd be incredible at it.
As far as risking injury, USC had no problem letting Reggie Bush return kicks.

He changed his mind over the weekend and now wants to give it a try (after seeing all the highlights on ESPN of RBs returning kicks and punts).

Pville's right. he had a change of heart apparently. listen to his part of the press conference at the media luncheon for this week on Aggieathletics.com.

uhh... nope. i know what you typed. and i listened to his interview in the media luncheon so i know what he said. what do you think i misunderstood? i was confirming what Pville said that he changed his mind and is now open to the idea. and told loftin he could listen on the interviews to hear what he said

But you gave P-ville credit for getting it right, when all he did was retype what I typed damnit. There wouldn't be any discussion about this if all of y'all just read what I originally wrote.

EDIT for topic relatedness:D: I mean I think goodson should take the risk because the reward is very high. I'd like to see him at punts though.

I've never been impressed with Jordan Peterson returning punts, but I like Kerry Franks a lot. Our special teams haven't been great though. I would rather see Franks or someone else returning punts. Probably not JJ because we need to keep him healthy if McGee is hurt.

Why do I need to work on reading comprehension? I obviously knew what was right and was correcting Loftin (hourly occurance these days :)). I knew you already typed that, but Loftin obviously missed the news.
