View Full Version : If your children could not go to A&M, where would you want them to go?

Let's say for whatever reason, your son/daughter could not go to A&M. With cost not being an issue, what school would you want your kids to go to and why? I'm only putting schools in Texas to simplify things. I'm curious to see which school gets the most votes. I also allowed multiple votes in the poll.

I went with Rice and t.u. (that was very hard) based on the high level of education that they would receive at either school.

Something tells me tech is not going to get a whole lot of votes on this thread. If I had to pick from the list I would pick SMU, Baylor or Rice.

P-ville....you been living in Austin too long or what? I would choose an out of state school...preferably Auburn. I think the poll should be what schools would you not pay for your children to attend: t.u., tech, baylor, U of H, Sam Houston!

Nah, you know I hate t.u as much as anyone, but you can't argue that it is not a good academic school. I want my kids to be as successful as possible when they are adults. Unfortunately, if A&M was not an option, and I had to choose an in state school, t.u. would be one of them b/c I know that their degree would get them a good job.

You want your boys to be fairy in ballets or artist? They can get just as good of an education in a lot of other places & not be subjected to the insanely liberal life-style that goes on around that place.

What other schools in Texas give a comprable education as t.u? Sure, there are plenty of queers at t.u, but it is possible to be normal and go to school there. Both of my parents did.

Yeah, but times there have changed. Talk to anybody that went to school there back then & they can't believe what it has become today. It all depends on what they want to study--I guess if you are going to have a bunch of liberal art majoring kids, then yeah, thats the best choice. But I'd rather them go to Rice, if they have to stay in state, or lots of out of state schools. I WILL NOT PAY FOR MY KIDS TO ATTEND t.u.--BRING BACK THE HATE!!!

I chose Rice and t.u. If my kids had to go to t.u., they would be in the Business or Engineering school, both some of the best in the country.
Would you rather your kid be at Baylor, tech, Cougar High, or t.u?

None of the above! I said I would not pay for my kids to go to any of those schools. And, now that you bring that up, how are they going to get into the t.u. Business or Engineering school but not A&M's?

Something odd is that I bet people would have an easier time had this poll had a football twist to it....
Like if you couldn't have any A&M QB, which school's QB would you have....
or RB's or any position....
But have the same schools as your choices.....

If they couldn't get into A&M, then odds are they couldn't get into Rice and tu either. If they wanted to go to tu, thats fine. If they play for tu, thats fine as long as they realize that I would still be rooting for A&M when they played each other.

I never said that they could not get into A&M. I never gave a reason why A&M was not an option. Pretend that is has nothing to do with grades or anything like that. A&M is not an option, period. A&M closes its doors and is no longer a university. Where do you want them to go to school?

My daughter, my oldest, graduated from the University of Oklahoma. It was a boy friend thing back then that drew her to the school. I kiddingly worriy about the quality of the education she got in Norman. My son went to two junior colleges one in MO and the other in OKC. After he ended his 4 year career in professional baseball, he went to the same school as my daughter, but did not graduate. He makes more money now than I do. Go figure.

I always felt that from an academic standpoint, college is overrated. 90% of the jobs out there that require some sort of college degree can be done without one.

College is an accelerated life experience. It spoon feeds you a lot of information that you need to know to be more rounded in your general life and technically proficient in your profession.. What you learn during 4+ years of college may take you three times as long to learn on your own if you really worked at it.

Exactly! But if you learn that at some liberal, gay fest like t.u. then what your kids are learning is so warped its not even funny. I don't even use my degree....lots of people I know don't use theirs. So why I am going to pay for my kids to get educated by a school (not educated in the book sense, mind you) that I completely hate & disagree with? Just my thoughts. What I learned in college was how to entertain & that is what I use the most in my business life. You can get that at most schools, IMO.

I agree its necessary for life experiences, but there are few jobs out there that I feel that those four years of academic classes are necessary. Your average insurance worker with a four year business degree probably learns more in their first two weeks of training then in college. Even with me being in teacher, I learned more in my two weeks of professional development in my first year then I did in college. Society has made college necessary, but what someone learns in those four years of classes is not a recipe for success.

I chose Rice, but all educational aspects aside.....it suddenly occurred to me, that tu or Baylor may be best. For my boys, the girl to heterosexual guy ratio is probably off the charts, similiar to Baylor, and therefore, they would have their pick of the women. And for my girl, I would not have to worry as much about too many guys being interested in her......hmmmmmmm.

So by your logic, anyone that goes to A&M comes out a farmer? We all went to school at a very conservative school centered around agriculture, but how many of us had our "learning warped" b/c of it? Are you a farmer b/c you had classes with some farmers? Did it make you want to become a farmer? No.

I'd let my kids go wherever they wanted. OF course, they would grow up around Aggie sports and season tickets, but if they wanted to go elsewhere, I'd have no qualms.
I want them to be happy.
With that said, I'd hope they'd choose LSU or some bigtime SEC school so I could see some good football.

Baylor has a great medical program as well....going there for undergrad does not help you get into their medical school. In fact, it would be better to go to A&M or tu if you wanted to get into Baylor Medical School, because the undergrad at these two schools is in the top tier for education, according to a ranking system the med school committees use.

No, thats not even comparable. What is comparable is beliefs. I would venture to say that 75-80% of A&M grads consider themselves conservatives. The difference though between views at A&M & t.u. is that the liberal side is always the loudest attempting to sway others to their side. I compare it to Christians vs. Mormons. Conservatives or Christians are generally willing to share their side or story when asked. Speak their beliefs & tell the truth. Mormons or liberals are out demonstrating or knocking on doors to try to draw attention to their agenda. Its just different to me.

Actually, we did not all come out farmers, but while there, we all did proudly yell, "Farmers Fight". Most of us probably had or have at least 1 pair of overalls in the closet. I know that I had plenty of hoes while there ;) . We accept and want people to refer to us as Ags or Aggies which is farm related. I would say that all of those things are pretty directly related to the fact that we went to A&M.
What can we say about tu students that are pretty directly related to the fact that they went to tu? <Enter Dustin response>
