The New England Patriots (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nwe) on Thursday night signed four-year veteran end Ty Warren (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6349), one of three first-round starters on their defensive line, to a new five-year contract that includes a maximum value of about $35 million and $18 million in guarantees.
Warren, 26, was the 13th overall player chosen in the 2003 draft and has emerged as one of the NFL's best and most versatile defensive linemen. Playing in the New England 3-4 front, he typically aligns as the left end on early downs and then often moves inside on passing downs. The former Texas A&M star combines -- as do most Patriots defensive linemen -- size, quickness and position flexibility.
