UT's Jones released from jail

AUSTIN — Texas freshman defensive tackle Andre Jones posted bond Tuesday and was released from Travis County Jail.
Jones, one of the Longhorns' top recruits who graduated early and enrolled at Texas in January, had been in jail since turning himself in Friday on a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
Jones, a Parade All-American at El Paso Andress, told UT officials that he is a victim of mistaken identity and was not with former safety Robert Joseph during the July 27 robbery of a southeast Austin apartment. Joseph, who was dismissed from the team, remains in jail.
Jones has been suspended indefinitely from the team pending the outcome of the legal process, coach Mack Brown said earlier this week.

Really, Andre? Well, let me suggest, rather than simply saying that you weren't there, you may want to, at a minimum, provide an alibi--or do you have to make a few phone calls first & make sure that said alibi is all lined up?

Just when you think this can't get any worse for there program. How embarrassing.
Amazing how they continue to get arrested on false charges. None of them do anything the are accused of. They are all church going, up standing, citizens, just trying to get a good college education and play a little football along the way. I really wish the Austin PD would stop targeting tu athletes. That is profiling and profiling is wrong. I guess the biggest celebrity in austin, leslie, was right when he said the APD is the reason he is living on the streets and has nothing but his shopping cart full of junk.

Your so right Pearlend AG. Hhmmm let's me see. I will turn myself in, spend 4 or 5 days in jail and then post bond. While I am in jail I will come up with this great idea that I will claim "mistaken identity" yeah that's it, that's what I will do. Boy I am a smart one aren't I?

While I read this I look like this, :bored: :bored: then I raise a few of these:bs: :bs: :bs:while I do this, :undecided: :undecided: :undecided: :undecided: While the whole time I just want to do this to the kid:headslap: .
If he was in Church cleaning the bells I don't know if God himself could provide an alibi for him.

whorns, that is very funny. Made me do this, I am glad to see you taking this type of approach to the way things are being handled within the program. I can only hope that Ags would feel the same way if we were in the same position....or just hope that we never have to worry about it. ;)

Correct me if I am wrong, but haven't Ags been kicked off the team for lesser issues????

Um, b/c a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Innocent or not, you can't just not turn yourself in if there is a warrant for you.

Well, actually, you can...but the cops will be serving a warrant at your house & taking you away in cuffs.

Yeah, I know, but noone should have expected him to go that route.
I'll be curious to hear Loftin's take on the "mistaken identity." I wonder if he'll defend Jones like he did when Reggie had his identity mistaken when he was accused of beating up those teenagers a while back.

Usually, if there is a warrant for an arrest, there is evidence and/or an eyewitness to the crime. Plus, any smart person would go to an attorney and provide him with alibi evidence if he was innocent. Sounds like BS to me.

there was an eyewitness. However it is his right as a US citizen to pay the bail that was set for him and to defend himself. Of course this is a terrible defense but it is his right.

5 of the victim's ID'd him in a police lineup. That will be hard to get around.

Yeah his family paid some money and might as well thrown it away. He'll be back in jail after his trial.

How long before some UT alum ponies up enough cash to convince Aaron Harris to admit that he was the one with Joseph?

So Jones pleaded guilty to a felony robbery charge and was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 10 yrs probation.
Joseph got 8 years probation.
